The Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Specialist - Port Services to report directly to Superintendent - Supply at Lihir Gold Limited FIFO to Newcrest Lihir Gold Operation. You will plan, monitor and control maritime operations and support services for the port, ensuring personnel, cargo, materials and maritime vessels entry and exit through the port is conducted safely with adequate resources, to industry best practice, and in compliance with regulatory and Newcrest occupational health, safety, environmental and security standards and requirements.

Other responsibilities will include but not be limited too
• Overseeing a large are large workforce across Port Services including contractors.
• Leading the safe execution of Port Operations at Lihir.
• Ensures all personnel, visitors and contractors comply with site and contractual HSE requirements and hold people accountable for adherence.
• Ensuring the right behaviours are being adopted within the team.
• An ability to ensure shipping schedule is executed well.
• Delivers husbandry support services during port visits
• Sources and manages suppliers and service providers to meet requests for vessel within contract and budget limitations.
• Ensure the safe pilotage of all vessels within Louise Harbour
• Ensure that the port facility is maintained in operational status at all times by ensuring wharf areas are inspected daily to ensure that fenders are in place, that there is adequate wharf lighting, correct stacking, that cargo is secure and handled with care and that a safe and clean working environment is maintained.
• Provides supervision over the Port Services contract ensuring the orderly and safe stevedoring, trucking, cargo working equipment, and consolidation in the port facility.
• Provides supervision over the control and movement of containers in the wharf environments.
• Actively maintains a liaison with masters, ships officers, cargo planners, shippers, receivers, shipping companies and complete all associated documentation and reporting functions.
• Assists with customs clearances, accounts, quarantine and the safe delivery of cargo to consignees.
• Provides advice to the Hydrographic Department of any changes to marine features and depths.
• Maintains the pilot boat and all associated equipment including all marine lighting for the port.
• Monitors and records the depth of water at the berth.
• Develop team members through regular feedback, coaching and formal training
• Delivers work within approved budget managing any variances in accordance with escalation process.
• Actively seeks cost reduction opportunities.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience
• Relevant industry qualification, advanced diploma or certification desirable
• PNG Driver's Licence - Class 6 essential.
• Certificate in Workplace Assessment and Training or similar desirable
• 15+ years shipping/transportation and stevedoring work experience essential.
• Previous experience working in a remote location in a developing country advantageous within Port Operations ideal, but not essential.
• Company-wide and departmental ERP systems including SAP.
• Proficient in English with excellent verbal, written communication and public speaking skills.
• Computer proficiency in MS Office suite.
• Sound planning, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure and autonomously.
• Excellent attention to detail and time management skills to meet deadlines.
• Strong active listening & interpersonal skills for rapport building, conflict resolution & training.

Mobilisation Requirements:
• Willing to work at Lihir Gold Limited in Papua New Guinea on a FIFO arrangement
• Ability to provide/obtain valid police clearance
• Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment medical assessment
