Reporting to the General Manager, the Superintendent, Environment is responsible for collaborating closely with department heads and senior personnel across the coal business unit and enterprise.

To be successful we require someone with outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work in cross-functional teams and guide good outcomes. Someone who works with diplomacy and discretion, and can guide and mentor a team of technical professionals.

Responsibilities :

• Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
• Provide proactive guidance and support to all areas on environmental and sustainability issues
• Ensure appropriate process and procedures are developed and designed so that the operation maintains compliance with all environmental operating permits, including management of the Environmental Management System under ISO 14001
• Raise the profile of environmental and sustainability practices and policies on site by working closely with and supporting the various operating groups
• Develop working relationships with government agencies, Indigenous groups, and communities of interest in coordination with the business unit
• Participate in Teck’s Social, Environmental, and Regulatory Approvals (SERA) process for major mine permit applications, and lead non-major mine permitting activities
• Provide leadership, coaching, and mentoring to personnel within the Environment group

Qualifications :

• Engineering or Science degree or diploma in an environmental-related field
• Minimum 10 years’ experience in environmental compliance, resource and project management, in a mining or natural resource environment
• Experience supervising or leading a team
• Solid understanding of provincial and federal regulatory approvals practices, legislation, and regulations
• Excellent project management experience with a track record that includes management and technical direction of multiple environmental projects
• Experience with Environmental Management Systems and the practical application of mitigation planning
• Hands on experience in applied scientific research and analysis, particularly Environmental impact risk assessment
