Job Description

The Health and Safety Manager will provide a leadership role driving continuous improvement in safety and health. The successful candidate will develop and facilitate the implementation and administration of mining safety best practices and processes across the mine site and ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities
:
Develop and continuously promote strategic objectives and health and safety awareness programs to ensure all workers understand their health and safety responsibilities; Lead, advise and co-ordinate the departmental health and safety officers to deliver the site health and safety objectives; Work collaboratively with site and corporate leadership to positively effect the site Safety Culture that align with the site's Mission/Vision/Values Contribute to the ongoing development and review of site policies, procedures, hazard management plans and standards; Advise and assist senior management to establish business health and safety objectives, targets and KPIs that are fully integrated with the site's business unit plans; Facilitate regular hazard/risk management planning via regular risk reviews incorporating business unit hazard identification, risk assessment and control practices, and ensuring compliance; Organize and conduct regular health and safety audits and workplace inspections; Manage the growth and development of the S&H team Ensure that all health and safety documents are controlled in accordance with the relevant corporate standards; Produce a weekly and monthly HST report for both company (and statutory) requirements. Reports will include: serious incidents, safety statistics, budget performance and relevant occupational health and safety, and training issues; Assist the site management team to develop, implement and maintain a comprehensive Emergency Response Plan; Ensure a high standard of emergency preparedness at all times by ensuring suitable numbers of site personnel are trained as Emergency Responders, ensuring equipment is regularly inspected and maintained in good working order, ensure regular training exercises and realistic scenarios are carried out; and regularly update procedures and call out systems; Manage an effective on-site medical facility, ensuring adequate first aid and treatment resources are available at all times; Act in the role of Rehabilitation Coordinator, liaising with Department Managers, HR, doctors and the injured person to develop a structured rehabilitation program with the aim of returning the injured person back to full-time employment. Develop annual site training plan and budget; Maintain development training plans for ongoing development and up-skilling of line management ;

Requirements
:
Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related field, preferred Minimum of ten (10) years experience in Occupational Health and Safety department within a mining environment. Minimum of three (3) years overall supervision experience within a mining environment. Professional mine safety/health certification (CMSP) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP), preferred Relevant experience in developing and administering programs to prevent losses involving people, equipment, material and the environment Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of current health and safety legislation. Demonstrated commitment to achieving an injury free workplace. Demonstrated ability to motivate, lead and develop people in a manner which results in a sustained change in behavior and performance. Ability to lead health and safety audits, formal risk assessments and undertake personnel competency assessments. A high level of competence in Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint and experience with safety management systems. Effective report writing, presentation preparation and verbal communication skills.
