THE ROLE
Reporting to the General Manager, the Safety, Health, and Environment Manager is responsible for providing leadership, support, and expertise to the operations on all matters related to safety, health, and environment (SHE). The Manager is responsible for ensuring that SHE risks and regulations are understood and that appropriate SHE management systems are developed and maintained. The successful candidate will maintain frequent contacts with regulators and other external stakeholders and will also work closely with Nyrstar's Corporate Safety and Environment teams

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Safety, Health, Environment and Community
  • Provide technical leadership and expertise on SHE issues and support site personnel in the management of SHE risks.
  • Maintain primary site responsibility for achieving compliance with applicable SHE requirements specified by regulations, permits and Corporate standards
  • Integrate EHS initiatives into departmental planning, decision making, systems and processes
  • Maintain existing environmental management system (including ISO 14001 certification) and work toward establishing an ISO 45001-certified safety management system.
  • Promote awareness of SHE risks and requirements and establish appropriate departmental targets to prevent harm
  • Ensure hazards and sources of loss are identified, evaluated, and controlled in accordance with Nyrstar SHE Policies and Management Standards
  • Prepare performance monitoring reports and other documentation required by SHE permits and regulations.
  • Manage the site's relationships with regulators and other external stakeholders as it relates to safety, health, and environment, with a particular focus on MSHA and TDEC
  • Provide reporting on SHE matters to the site and corporate management.

Pre-Requisite Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in related field
  • 10+ years' experience in a SHE lead or management role
  • MSHA / EPA and local regulatory mitigation and litigation
  • Effective internal and external stakeholder influence and engagement
  • Strategy and execution of innovative solutions that lead to improved productivity
  • Ability to anticipate future functional and operational business needs, and effectively deploy functional resources to achieve agreed outcomes
  • Ability to design and deliver solution options and ensure the change management process is followed to avoid upstream / downstream shortfalls and negative interactions
