Role Details

Gold Fields - St Ives is currently seeking a Geologist: Projects to join their Underground Geology Department at St Ives Gold Mine.

Reporting to the Senior Geologist, you will be responsible for providing quality mine geology services and working collaboratively with the broader Mining Team to maximise return from the operation.

This role is offered on an 8 days on 6 days off roster and will require the incumbent to be either Fly in Fly out or be residential in Kambalda or Kalgoorlie . Relocation assistance will be offered to the preferred candidate if required.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Always act in a manner that seeks to enhance the safety culture and performance of GFA and ensures that the Vital Behaviours are always adhered to;
  • Assist the Mine Teams to implement mining methodology that minimises dilution and maximises recovery of economic resources;
  • Collate and deliver accurate production and geological models, data, forecasts and associated reports within agreed timeframes to provide management guidance with progress/status against outlook, forecast and budget;
  • Take full ownership and responsibility for the resource estimation, geological and structural models for your operation;
  • Provide a high level of contribution to the geological interpretation, grade control models, resource models and reports to ensure accuracy of interpretation and the ability to deliver on expected outcomes/strategic objectives and time frames;
  • Contribute to the definition, implementation and monitoring of short, medium and long-term mines exploration programs to extend the Life of Mine (LOM) and increase reserves and resources;
  • Planning, organising and management of grade control and mine definition drill programs;
  • Document and define the controls on mineralisation through mapping, reports and presentations to build a bank of quality historical data and knowledge for current and future reference.


Key factors to your success include:

  • Bachelor of Science majoring in Geology
  • C Class WA driver's licence
  • A minimum of 5 years mining industry experience - preferably in a surface and/or underground Gold operation including exposure to Resource Estimation
  • Previous practical experience in Underground Mining will be beneficial
  • Sound computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite and Datamine geological modelling software package
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite and mining software such as Datamine
  • Excellent communication skills
