We are seeking for a dynamic individual to join our Control, Automation and Electrical team who is interested in tackling challenging projects and assignments.

The Senior Instrumentation and Control (I&C) engineer will lead large and small projects with a focus on the instrumentation and control deliverables required for Mining, Energy and Infrastructure projects.

The individual will provide guidance on instrumentation and control techniques to produce necessary deliverables on various projects from Feasibility studies to Detail design. The candidate will also support various proposals and interface with clients as necessary.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Define I&C project requirements as they relate to scope, cost and schedule.
  • Responsible in developing the following I&C deliverables:
    • I&C Design Criteria
    • P&IDs
    • Input to PFDs
    • General Layout drawings/ Instrument location drawings
    • Instrument Datasheets
    • Interconnection diagrams
    • Prepare Technical specifications for instrumentation and control systems
    • Perform bid evaluation and Technical recommendation
    • Instrument Installation drawings
    • Equipment lists
    • Instrument Index and IO Lists
    • Control Philosophy
    • System Architecture
    • Functional Descriptions/Control Narratives
    • Cable Schedule
  • Responsible to ensure deliverables are technically correct and meet industry and project standards.
  • Participate in HAZOP and other process safety related reviews as required.
  • Review vendor shop/manufacturing drawings to ensure conformity with engineering designs.
  • Review other discipline drawings/documents and vendor data to ensure conformity with I&C design criteria.
  • Interface with other discipline engineers to ensure technical and physical interfaces are addressed.
  • Manage and treat Instrumentation supply packages or contract packages as mini projects; managing the scope, schedule and cost aspects of the relevant package. Actively manage the relationships with vendors to ensure that suitable outcomes are achieved for all parties concerned.
  • Responsible for engineering work packages to ensure that project budgets and schedules are being met.


Required Qualifications and Skills

  • A recognized degree in electrical engineering or chemical engineering from an accredited university or a technologist certification with suitable experience.
  • Registration as a professional engineer or technologist
  • Minimum ten years of project engineering experience, specific to Instrumentation and Control
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to function with minimal supervision
  • Sound understanding of design engineering codes and technical standards
  • Ability to delegate tasks and effectively supervise others
  • Experience with 3D data centric design systems.
  • Experience with an I&C design tool such as Smartplant Instrumentation or equivalent.
  • Experience designing and reviewing communication networks using fibre optics and/or copper and standard network appliances.
  • Experience with commissioning.


Nice to Have Qualifications

  • DCS/PLC Programming experience is an asset.
  • Safety Engineer Certifications (TUV/ISA) is an asset.
  • Communications certifications (CISCO or equivalent) is an asset .
