We are looking for a Superintendent, Operational Services and Contractor Management to provide support and leadership for the Operational Services department and Contractor Management Team within the Processing Operations Site General Services team. The Superintendent, Operational Services and Contractor Management will ensure:

  • Effective scheduling and assignment of Operator/Maintainers within the Operational Services department through the call center and will work in collaboration with Operations leaders to ensure scheduling aligns with site-wide operational needs in Labrador City.
  • All contractor partners across site are qualified and have all of the required credentials to perform the services required onsite.
  • Contractors and the various departments of IOC will follow our Contractor Management Policies and Procedures as well as any IOC Policies related to working onsite.

What the role entails:

Reporting to the Manager, Site General Services, the Superintendent, Operational Services and Contractor Management will:

  • Lead a multi-disciplined operations team to ensure area headcount shortfalls are minimized.
  • Collaborate closely with peer superintendents to continuously improve scheduling, training and logistics; work with leaders to diagnose and overcome implementation issues
  • Develop KPIs to reflect effectiveness and efficiency, maintain the established standard, and communicate KPIs to key customers
  • Provide leadership, coaching, training and development to Call Centre employees and the Operational Services team
  • Provide advice relating to resource allocation for the Operational Services department across the value chain
  • Lead the CMS team across both sites (Labrador City and Sept Iles) to provide support and advice to contractor companies and their representatives to effectively manage the contractors work onsite, as well as coach and mentor IOC Contacts and contractors to ensure compliance with Rio Tinto HSE Standards, Contractor Management System (CMS) policies and procedures, and all aspects of IOC HSE requirements.
  • Provide contractor management support to the Area Managers and General Managers
  • Assist line management with resolving CM and associated issues within the division. This includes the
  • provision of information, advice and support with management of existing contractors and new vendor
  • approval process.
  • Manage all facets of the CMX Processes within IOC and Rio Tinto
  • Develop and maintain effective cross functional relationships


Required Qualifications

  • College level diploma or equivalent experience is required
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in an operational / planning context
  • Must have a strong, demonstrated commitment to safety
  • Must possess good communication skills - written and oral, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and to effectively interface with others
  • Other Qualifications:
  • Computer literacy in MS Office applications
