Project Management Specialist (Highway Engineer)

Fixed Term Contract – 20 Months

Brun-Way Highways Operations Inc is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Project Management Specialist (Highway Engineer). Brun-Way is responsible for 275 kilometers of the Trans-Canada Highway from the Quebec border to Longs Creek (west of Fredericton) and Route 95 between Woodstock and the Houlton Border until year 2033.

The primary role of this position will be to assist the Chief Engineer in the planning and delivery of highway facility rehabilitation programs and related implementation projects associated with highway asset management and useful life performance optimization.  This position will also assist other functions in day-to-day operations and liaising with the Client – the Trans-Canada Highway Project Company.

How you will contribute to the team?

  • Facilitate and assist in the inspection and recording of all structural and drainage asset components of the highway facility.
  • Facilitate and assist in the inspection & recording of the pavement data.
  • Manage the annual and preventative maintenance programs and related cost and resource allocations.
  • Assist in annual KPI assessment of detailed inspection programs of key major assets and reporting through the asset management systems for bridges, drainage and control structures and pavement.
  • Assist in the development of annual preventive maintenance programs and facilitate training to internal staff and specialty crews to manage highway facility assets and implement related preventive field delivery procedures.
  • Prepare the annual project tenders, review and update specifications, coordinate job with successful bidder, arrange for internal resources required and provide assistance to supervise the work.
  • Liaison with Contractors, Consultants and Suppliers.
  • Assist in the training and direction of internal staff in OMR requirements and contracted maintenance and rehabilitation projects.
  • Assist in the direction of internal staff in traffic management principles for maintenance and rehabilitation activities.
  • Facilitate and assist in the development of traffic management plans for rehabilitation activities.
  • Act as the Chief Engineer in his/her absence.


Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Quality Safety and Environmental (QSE) Manager in QSE matters related to contracted maintenance and rehabilitation projects.
  • Assist the OMR Manager, Chief Engineer and QSE Manager in coordination of reporting to the Client.


What will you contribute?

  • Licensed Professional Engineer registered in the Province of New Brunswick.
  • 3- 5 years’ experience in Project Management and highway infrastructure rehabilitation projects.
  • Familiar with and knowledgeable about highway construction specifications.
  • Experience in preparing rehabilitation plans of assets such as bridges, roadways and drainage structures
  • Demonstrates solid decision-making, problem-solving skills.
  • Technically and analytically strong.
  • Ability to interact and establish working relationships with government agencies, external customers, construction industry officials and suppliers.
  • Experience in Quality Management Plans in construction and operations activities.
