Summary

The person in this position will work as part of multidisciplinary teams on civil engineering projects. Responsibilities will include providing computer-aided drafting; processing survey data; performing grading design; developing and managing project CAD file structures, basefiles, planimetrics; generating 3D design surfaces; preparing construction drawings and renderings; developing material quantity take-offs from construction drawings; and preparing reports. Additional responsibilities may involve working with engineers to design earthwork and utility projects, assisting with specification preparation, providing construction observation and administration assistance, and monitoring. Work may involve out-of-town assignments.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Two-year technical or engineering certificate/degree or experience/coursework directly related to the responsibilities described above
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with project team members, and clients
  • Ability and willingness to work cooperatively with project team members in a high-energy working environment that encourages self-initiative
  • A flexible working style and the ability to work both independently in the field and with teams of specialists to meet client and project needs
  • Familiarity with at least one of the following CADD civil design software programs: Autodesk Civil 3D, Bentley InRoads, or GEOPAK
  • Legal authorization to work in Canada without the need for sponsorship
  • Acceptable driving record
  • Willing to participate in client required drug and alcohol screening programs
  • The ability to walk across uneven terrain
  • The ability to lift and carry 20-kilograms

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate of a program accredited by Technology Accreditation Canada (TAC)
  • Certified Technician (C.Tech) or Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) membership with The Association of Science & Engineering Professionals of Alberta (ASET)
  • 2+ years of experience working on projects directly related to the responsibilities described above at an engineering or industrial workplace
  • Demonstrated proficiency using current versions of AutoCAD and Civil 3D
  • Demonstrated familiarity with spreadsheet and word-processing software
  • Experience in developing, using, and interpreting construction drawings
  • Experience with construction observation and documentation
  • Experience preparing construction cost estimates
  • Experience preparing construction drawings
  • Willingness to learn other graphic software including GIS
  • Ability and willingness to travel to and stay near client sites to perform field work including construction observation and testing and investigations
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship or ability to obtain a TN visa.


NOTE: Some work locations may feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and may also require entering and working within facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Safety training will be provided.
