Purpose
- Provide technical support to PGM for various aspects of mine engineering as part of the Technical Services, with a gradual increase in responsibility as competency is demonstrated,
- Provide an opportunity to learn the mining process in an operational environment,
- Provide Engineering Interns with exposure to a wide range of technical roles in order to give a solid base to build their careers on within Newmont.

Essential Duties
Promoting Safety and Sustainability
- Promote innovation and continuous improvement in safety by reviewing existing engineering designs and implementing new designs.
- Develop plans and designs for regulatory compliance and compliance to Company policies, procedures and standards.
- Promote and adhere to Company safety policies.
Exposure to Operations
Understand the operation and limitations of (and provide technical support to) through exposure to:
- Drilling operations,
- Loading operations,
- Mucking, haulage and dumping operations,
- Overall supply of materials for the operation,
- Construction activities associated to the mining process, and
- Implementation of technology to assist mining operation.
Technical Responsibilities
Provide technical support in the following engineering duties in varying capacities, aligning with the needs of PGM:
- Surveying duties
- Ventilation duties (for underground)
- Drill and blast design duties
- Planning duties (short-term, mid-term or long range)
- Scheduling duties
- Infrastructure design duties
- Geotechnical duties
- Backfill duties
- Waste rock management
- Project management
- Mine economics studies and financial management
- Possible supervision of processes or personnel, when competency demonstrated.
- Peer to peer work reviews
Leadership Requirements
- Interacts with operations, all engineering staff, consultants and other company personnel, as required. This is a development role. Leadership requirements will increase as individual progresses through program.
- Be focused, clear, and decisive.
Training & Experience
- A Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering or equivalent mining-related engineering degree.
- Registered as an EIT with Professional Engineers Ontario is preferred or must be eligible for EIT status within Professional Engineers Ontario
- Be technically competent and have a good understanding of mining.
- Familiarity with Deswik would be considered an asset (not required)
Working Conditions
- This role is located at Newmont's Hoyle Pond location as part of the Porcupine Mine near Timmins, ON.
- In this role you will work a 5x2 Schedule. If you do not live near the site, we will require relocation.
