Dimensions

This position will promote, communicate and follow operating procedures, Newmont Exploration Standards and Guidelines and Newmont's Fatality Risk Management (FRM) system. This position will ensure exploration activities will not cause unsafe working and environmental situations and will ensure timely reporting and correction of issues. They will be reporting to the Senior Exploration Geologist.

Purpose

To process, compile and interpret a significant amount of geologic information being generated by the Borden exploration efforts. Work with contractors and work effectively and efficiently within the geology team and with other departments.

Essential Duties

  • Logging of exploration diamond drill core. Selection of sample sites, ongoing implementation of the QA-QC programs.
  • Generation of exploration targets/concepts/exploration models
  • Supervision of any sample collection, storage, shipment performed by technicians
  • Track drilling progress on daily basis. Visit drill rigs, inspect for adherence to PGM safety-environmental guidelines.
  • Utilize industry-standard software to compile and interpret 3-D location, geologic & assay results. Timely plotting of data.
  • Inform supervisor of new assay results, geologic opinions/suspicions, etc.
  • Contribute to target selection, follow-up. Design holes provide drillers with layouts.
  • Visit drill sites to spot holes, assess safety & technical requirements.
  • Occasional surface mapping & sampling projects
  • Assist with resource modelling, estimations.

Training & Experience

  • Bachelor of Science (Geology) degree or Geological Technician's diploma with equivalent experience
  • Must hold or be eligible to obtain Professional Geologist designation.
  • 3 years of gold exploration experience, of which 1-2 should be within a mining environment.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills. Innovative and a proven ability to work with others.
  • Computer literacy is required. Working knowledge of the MS Office, industry-standard digital logging, and database entry.
  • Experience with geological software an asset.
  • Ability to communicate clearly & confidently, on a timely basis.
  • Industry-standard training in First-Aid, WHIMIS, an asset.


Working Conditions

  • This role is located at Borden, which is part of Newmont's Porcupine Mine located near Chapleau, ON.
  • In this role, you will work a 14x14 schedule; however, this is not a fly-in/fly-out operation. You will be required to have a residency near site for the days that you do work.
