Role Details

Reporting to the Senior Engineer: Mine Production, you will facilitate the safe and optimal extraction of gold from the open pit operation. In compliance with site Environmental and Safety Standards, you will be responsible for all mining aspects including delivering detailed mine planning and designs required to meet short, medium and long term mine plans.

This role is offered on a permanent basis, 8 days on 6 days off roster and is Fly in Fly out from Perth.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Always act in a manner that seeks to enhance the safety culture and performance of Gold Fields and ensures that the Vital Behaviours are adhered to at all times;
  • Ensure all design work undertaken gives due consideration to the safety and wellbeing of all employees;
  • Undertake conceptual and detailed mine design, assessments and schedules to maximise the deliverable economic potential of the ore-body;
  • Ensure the quality of all plans delivered to the operation. Ensure practical and technically sound, whilst enabling safe and efficient production;
  • Undertake capital and other project works including design, assessment and project management;
  • Coordinate the use of and liaise with consultants where required for specialist works, input or review of mine plans;
  • Actively seek the input of mine operations and peer review of design work to ensure high standard of mine planning work;
  • Maintain an electronic filing system for mine planning design and construction;
  • Ensure maximum return on investment by carrying out optimisation, design and evaluation work, calculating ore reserves in accordance with established planning policies such as cut-ff grades and legislative requirements;
  • Undertake economic assessments of mining blocks, areas and methodology and provide appropriate recommendations;
  • Ensure the business can make informed decisions by identifying, planning and communicating extraction strategies, critical path and high exposure areas as part of an iterative scenario planning process;
  • Consistently demonstrate and reflect behaviours, actions and attitudes in line with the Gold Field's Vision, Values and Code of Ethics. Actively promote Gold Field's policies, procedures and systems relating to your area of responsibility.


Key factors to your success include:
  • Tertiary Qualifications in a Mining Engineering or a related discipline
  • WA Quarry Manager's ticket or ability to obtain
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a similar role, with exposure to all production phases preferably in gold
  • Proven experience as a Mine Engineer with exposure to Drill & Blast, Load & Haul, Production Engineering, Projects, Planning and Scheduling (preferably in gold)
  • Proficient in mining software such as Deswik, Whittle, Datamine and Microsoft Office
  • A valid WA 'C' class Driver's Licence
