Purpose

Winter intern positions begin in Q1 2021 and conclude in August 2021. The exact dates are flexible depending on each student's availability and our business need. Our internships are full-time paid positions (37.5 hours/week).

This internship is based at our North American Regional Office in Vancouver, BC, however, will primarily consist of a remote working environment, in consideration of the current COVID-19 regulations. It is possible some travel may be required to one or more of Newmont's sites. There is ample opportunity for internal networking within our company . As an intern, you will be responsible for supporting Human Resources projects, as well as supporting the day-to-day activities of your department. The exact projects will be established according to your availability, interest, skills, and experience, in addition to the specific business needs.

Essential Duties

Possible projects include :

  • Assist the onboarding process including conducting first-day orientations and collecting new hire documentation, liaising with payroll.
  • Assist with workforce changes including offer letters and liaising with payroll.
  • Liaise with employees as well as the HR Services center regarding various employee inquiries.
  • Create and maintain templates for various human resources documents including onboarding/offboarding materials, policies, and reports.
  • Support reporting and development of communication materials for annual performance management cycle.
  • Liaise with talent management in implementation of Inclusion & Diversity strategy.
  • Updating communication materials and intranet libraries as needed.
  • Prepare various human resource documents such as employment verification letters and employment change letters.
  • Assist with compiling and updating policies by conducting research on regulations and best practices.
  • Assist with headcount reports and other ad hoc HR reports.
  • Processing and reconciliation of invoices.


The above duties and responsibilities are representative of the nature and level of work; other work may also be assigned.

Training & Experience

  • Current enrolment in a post-secondary program with a focus on Human Resources, Business, or other related discipline.
  • Prior internship experience preferred but not required.
  • Experience taking recruitment, benefits, general human resources or related courses a benefit.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. (Excel, Word and Outlook)
  • Ability to work well independently and in a team.
  • Strong planning skills with an ability to juggle multiple projects.
  • Self-starter with a strong attention to detail and dedication to delivering high quality work on time.
  • Ability to demonstrate professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; comfort engaging with senior leaders and global teams.
  • Strong research methods capability and writing skills.
  • Authorized to legally work full-time in Canada.
