This is an exciting opportunity to get in at the ground level of a rapidly expanding, dynamic, global green energy business. Fortescue Future Industries is currently undertaking a rapid expansion and are seeking applications for a Senior/Civil Design Hydropower Engineer.
Reporting to the Manager Hydrotechnical delivery, this role will have an emphasis on tunnel design support by experience in geotechnical design for hydropower projects

Reporting to the Manager Hydrotechnical delivery, this role will have an emphasis on tunnel design support by experience in geotechnical design for hydropower projects
Key duties and responsibilities will include:
- Providing comprehensive design services, including the development of new hydropower infrastructure and refurbishment of existing assets.
- Build strong relationships with local and international stakeholders
- Proactively deliver on the company's stretch targets.
- Managing and technically reviewing designs for tunnelling and underground construction works from concept to implementation phases.
- Develop technical specifications to meet project specific objectives
- Develop technical and feasibility studies and development of drawings that satisfy technical specifications
- Interpret engineering drawings, documents, specifications and scopes.
- Management of contractors and sub-contractors, including the preparation, adjudication, award and execution of tender packages for various stages of design and project execution.
- Resolution of technical and design issues.
- Liaising with a range key stakeholders on all technical aspects of projects.
- Tracking progress and performance against agreed specific and strategic KPI's for the team and contractors.
In order to be successful in this role:
Candidates must be able to bring a flexible mindset, challenge traditional thinking, and be prepared to work outside of their comfort zone
- Bachelors Degree in Civil, Geotechnical Engineering or similar
- Demonstrable experience working as a tunnel engineer on large scale, civil engineering or infrastructure projects.
- Experienced in providing comprehensive design services for the full project life cycle from feasibility through to construction
- Experience with tunnel construction in hard and soft rock conditions
- In-depth knowledge of drill and blast, NATM, HDD and TBM trenchless excavation techniques
- Detailed knowledge of geology, structural engineering and trenchless construction
- A critical appreciation of the risk assessment and management process, including communication of risk to technical and non technical stakeholders
- Strong communication and interpersonal skill
- Strong awareness in the development of project schedules and considerations of regulatory approvals
- A strong capability in adapting to multidisciplinary requirements in particular communicating a range of Engineering concepts to a range of expertise
- Strong data management and manipulation skills, with excellent computer literacy skills.
- Strong team skills and willingness to travel for short periods.
