The Role: Senior Mining Engineer, Technical Services (Maules Creek, NSW)
Reporting to the Mine Planning Superintendent, the Senior Mining Engineer is accountable for coordinating the planning activities in the short-term horizon, providing engineering support and continuously improve the mining plan to maximise resource utilization through effective and efficient mining methods.

To be successful in the role you will:
  • Actively manage the preparation of the Monthly, Weekly and 24 hour plan with consideration given to risk (safety, business, operational) and following the Mid-term Strategy
  • Ensure production Monthly plan is met through effective planning, scheduling and coordination of activities relating to the mining fleets
  • Ensure that all excavation & dump designs conform to Maules Creek Coal's Health and Safety Management System.
  • Ensure waste dumps consider rehabilitation requirements during the design stage, ensuring effective controls are in place.
  • Complete dig / dump design work required for 6 week plan.
  • Manage the 16 week mine planning process.
  • Liaise with supervisors, superintendents and other engineers in the planning process well before plans are due to complete plans on time.
  • Identify areas for technical and business improvement that have the potential to increase productivity and/or reduce mining costs.
  • Supervise and provide mentoring to mining engineers, ensuring their outputs adhere to business goals.
  • Provide effective technical support, assistance and advice to the Production, CHPP, Technical Services and Marketing departments as required.

The successful applicant will possess the following qualifications, experience and qualities:
  • Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering or similar
  • 5 years' experience in open cut coal mine engineering
  • Multi-seam coal open cut experience (Desirable)
  • Experience in development short-term mining schedules
  • Experience using mine planning & scheduling software (Vulcan, Gantt Scheduler, Spry)
  • Experience in Microsoft Excel spreadsheets/databases
  • Geotechnical experience (Desirable)
  • Experience in AHS Operations (Desirable)
  • RIIRIS301A - Apply Risk Management Processes (or equivalent) (desirable)
  • RIIOHS301A - Conduct Health and Safety Investigations (or equivalent) (desirable)
