ABOUT OUR OPERATION:

Agnico Eagle is always looking for new talented team members to join our Nunavut mining operations. We have been operating at Meadowbank, our first Low Arctic mine, near Baker Lake for over nine years. The mine produced its three millionth ounce of gold in 2018. 2019 marked the last year of production at the Meadowbank mine, and has since transitioned to process ore from the Amaruq satellite deposit. With the official opening of the Amaruq Whale Tail Project in August 2019, the project is now referred to as the Meadowbank Complex.

YOUR NEXT CHALLENGE:

Reporting to the Open Pit Geology Coordinator, the Open Pit Production Geology Technician is part of the Geology Department and collaborates with other departments of the mine. She/he will ensure that the goals and objectives are achieved while promoting and respecting Agnico Eagle's culture, Health & Safety Code of Conduct and the environment.

  • Identify and maintain contacts between different ore and waste material in the mining areas using assay maps and daily updated mining maps;

  • Supervise the clean up of the pit floors in the mining areas and/or in preparation for drilling/after blasting to minimize dilution;
  • Assist the Shovel and Loading Operators to visually sort out the ore material for maximizing the grade mined in the pit and monitor and supervise the accuracy of mining the ore packets;
  • Inspect, at the beginning of the shift and during mining, the working faces in order to determine if adjustment of the ore packets or sampling is necessary;
  • After the ore packets are flagged in the pit by the surveyors, verify if the shape and tape color are exactly as the designed shape and grade of the ore packets on the Assay Map. If errors are noticed, make immediately the necessary corrections;
  • Refresh the ore packets when necessary, ensuring that the packet pickets are in the right place and the color of the flagging tape match the type of material (red for SHG and HG, yellow for LG, and blue for Waste);

  • Collect drill samples and forward them to the assay laboratory;
  • Collect grab or channel samples as required and forward them to the assay laboratory. Until the assay results become available, the sampled material should be flagged as "No digging" area (caution tape). Plot the sample position and sample numbers on the maps in the office.
