Position Overview

Are you looking to continue to grow your career and make an impact? As a Senior Estimator, you will play a significant part in the success of Kiewit Foundations Co. by directly managing the execution of specialty foundations project estimates. A strong technical and practical background in specialty foundations and/or geotechnical construction is required.

This position reports to the Estimating Department Manager in a fast-paced office environment. Must be able to interact professionally with all levels of management, client representatives, staff and contractors while maintaining a diverse workload.

Location

Kiewit Foundations Co. has its headquarters in Omaha, NE and operates across North America via regional locations in Seattle, WA, Denver, CO, Chicago, IL, and Lenexa, KS. This position is will be assigned to one the regional offices.

Responsibilities

  • Review, analyze and interpret Contract Documents (RFP, specifications, drawings, and reference information) to develop detailed, comprehensive cost estimates for specialty foundations projects
  • Perform tasks related to quantity takeoff and pricing of specialty foundations projects
  • Coordinate with engineers/designers to provide constructability input and value engineering for preliminary project plans
  • Participate in kick-off meetings, estimate brainstorms, and estimate reviews
  • Solicit & analyze subcontractor and material quotes for responsiveness to the estimate and project requirements
  • Identify, quantify, and communicate risk throughout the estimating process
  • Perform site visits and investigations as needed


Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of related experience in heavy construction / estimating
  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in Construction Management, Engineering or related degree
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Broad knowledge and ability to understand project scheduling, cost control, specifications, and engineering drawings
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office products (e.g. Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Demonstrated commitment to ethics and integrity
  • Possess strong mathematical and computer skills
  • Must be able to meet deadlines
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Candidates must possess a strong work ethic
  • Work independently as well as part of a team
  • Good attention to detail with the ability to recognize discrepancies
  • Knowledge of construction methods, costs and techniques
  • Knowledge of construction safety and current federal & OSHA Requirements
  • Ability to perform duties in wide-ranging physical and climatic conditions, heights and negotiation of complex stair structures
  • Must be willing to travel as the job requires


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Basic knowledge of geotechnical engineering, ground improvement techniques, structural deep foundation methods, and support of excavation (SOE) operations
    • Ground Improvement experience includes rigid inclusions, soil mixing, vibro-replacement (stone columns), vibro-compaction, compaction grouting, permeation grouting, jet grouting, and deep dynamic compaction
    • Structural deep foundation experience includes micropiles, drilled shafts, auger-cast-in-place piles, driven piles
    • Support of excavation experience includes secant pile, anchors, and tie-backs
  • Recent knowledge of Bluebeam and Adobe/PDF software preferred
  • Working knowledge of Hard Dollar / InEight Estimate software or any similar software suite


Base Compensation: $76,000 - $125,000

(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
