How will you contribute to the team?

As a member of our Roads & Utilities Group in the Engineering, Design and Project Management Division for Central Canada, you will be working in a fast-paced team-oriented environment.  In addition to road and utility design, you will have exposure to structural, traffic, environmental, geotechnical, foundations, geomatics, rail and electrical design during the course of our design assignments.

Our Road & Utilities engineering team is looking for a Civil Engineering Co-op Student to join our growing team for 5 months.  

To perform this role successfully, the individual will be responsible for but not limited to the following:

The selected candidate will assist in the preparation of preliminary/detail highway and municipal design:
  • Quantity calculations, design reports, contract drawings and contract documents, property requests, field inspections
  • Preparation of proposals or expression of interest for road and utility design projects
  • Draft drawings, etc., in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation, based on designer’s markups.
  • Perform routine calculations and design as directed.
  • Prepare, update and issue drawings and other documents, as directed, to document control.
  • Interact with technical specialists, design leads and/or construction personnel.


What will you contribute?

Qualification & Experience
  • A 3rd or 4th year Civil Engineering student who has completed roadway geometric design, transportation, municipal engineering, hydrology and storm water management courses is preferred.
  • Exposure to Ontario and/or TAC geometric design standards for roads and underground utility design (sewers and watermains) would be an asset.
  • Exposure to detail design and contract preparation would be an asset, as would experience in road construction inspection.
  • Knowledge of the following computer programs is also an asset: AutoCAD, MicroStation, AutoTurn, InRoads, Civil 3D, HiCo, CPS, MS Project, MS Office Suite, HEC-RAS
  • Able to take part in discussions with the team members and peers.
  • Excellent time management and organization skills, and ability to work under pressure.
  • Excellent written, presentation and communication skills.
  • Excellent relationship skills; able to build trust and advocacy with others
  • Valid Driving License is required
  • Excellent MS Office skills.
