POSITION SUMMARY As Dispatcher, the successful candidate will be responsible for supervising and directing the safe, efficient movement of traffic (including personnel, supplies, ore, and waste) on the rail systems; coordinating, tracking, monitoring, and reporting the internal movement of ore and waste production by the haulage fleets; fielding and recording breakdown calls and relaying this information to the Mine Operations and Maintenance staff. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: facilitating the movement of ore, waste and personnel, timely and accurately transferring information between supervisors and departments on a shift-by-shift basis, accurately documenting call logs on spreadsheets and preparing end of shift reports; working with other supervisors, lead persons and departments on a daily basis; coordinating the flow of material and equipment through employees not under the direct supervision of the Dispatcher; initiating/implementing recommendations to improve the efficiency of the operation; handling/assisting with mine emergencies; and working in close quarters with other Dispatchers. The successful candidate for this position will be assigned to perform front line supervisory duties, on an as-needed basis.

QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • High school diploma and 1-2 years of specialized training in mine operations or a related field, and 4-7 years of related work experience; OR bachelor's degree in mining or related field and 1-2 years related work experience
  • Leadership qualities: character, teamwork, communication, business sense, and vision
  • Working knowledge of underground mining operations including safety, production, maintenance, economics, equipment, and staff utilization
  • Supervisory and management skills and experience
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations
  • Ability to effectively communicate with and train employees on various assignments/equipment
  • Must meet and maintain qualifications for working with explosives per the Safe Explosives Act.


QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

  • Computer skills- MS Office, JD Edwards
  • Knowledge of MSHA regulations
  • Ability /capability to work rotating shifts
  • Ability to handle stressful situations in a diplomatic manner
  • Ability to multi-task
