Bald Mountain is an open-pit mine with a large estimated mineral resource base located in White Pine County, Nevada. Its workforce comes from Ely, Eureka, Elko, and Spring Creek area. It is the newest mine in Kinross' portfolio aquired in January 2016. Nevada is one of the best mining jurisdictions in the world, along the southern extension of the prolific Carlin trend. The Bald Mountain Vantage Complex Project has commenced production, and the first gold bar was poured in June 2019.

Job Summary

Supervise and/or carry out exploration projects and evaluation programs. Provide senior level technical advice and direction to management and staff. Design exploration programs and evaluate results while serving as a mentor to junior staff. Report to the Exploration Manager. The employee will work continuously to align daily functions to reflect Kinross' values and work in accordance with standard operating procedures.

Essential Functions

  • Provide technical supervision of exploration activities in the field as well as the office.
  • Carry out and oversee technical functions (mapping, drill hole logging, etc).
  • Integrate and interpret geologic mapping, geophysical, geochemical and RC and core drilling data.
  • Assist with geologic modeling updates, and provide support to resource and mine geologists.
  • Assist in preparing budget requests and negotiation contracts for exploration as needed.
  • Prepare business cases regarding individual projects and initiatives and present results and recommendations.
  • Ensure exploration data is well documented for accuracy and quality in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Assist other departments with tasks that involve geologic issues.
  • Keep current on new developments in geology and other fields that might improve efficiency in developing, handling and interpreting geologic data.
  • Establish and maintain a professional relationship with various academic staff, federal and state geologists, independent consultants and geologists and industry peers.
  • Possess a positive attitude at all times and good organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Help develop other department personnel to perform duties listed above.

Essential Functions (continued)

  • Work without risk or harm to self and others.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license issued by state agency, or must be able to pass driver competency course and exam.

Education and Experience

  • Previous experience in mining and exploration required.
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to changing situations.
  • Ability to work independently and also as a member of the management team.
  • Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
  • Ability to function within the qualifications outlined in the attached physical demands sheets.
  • Good working knowledge and skill with a PC utilizing office applications and GIS software; knowledge of Acquire, Vulcan, Leapfrog, ArcGIS, ioGAS.
  • Must have a strong commitment to safety in the working environment.
  • Has a strong working knowledge of exploration techniques and a thorough understanding of drilling and assaying techniques.
  • Conscientious in taking on new tasks to improve skills.
  • Satisfactory safety, performance, and attendance is required.
  • Be a positive, safety-minded contributor to the team.
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of the team.
  • Consistently willing to learn and improve skills.
  • Must be available for shift work, overtime, holidays and weekends.
  • Must be 18 years old and presently authorized to work in the United States on a full time basis.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license required.
