The Veladero mine is large-scale open pit gold and silver mine, located in Argentina, in the heart of the Andes at elevations of 4,000 to 4,850 meters above sea level, approximately 374 kilometers northwest of the city of San Juan. Veladero is a 50/50 joint venture operation with Shandong Gold.

Our Technical Services team currently has an opportunity for a Chief Mine Engineer - STP to join our Veladero Mine.

Context:

As a member of the Technical Services team, the successful candidate will report to the area Superintendent and will lead the ST Planners. This role will require an individual who has a very high level of competency in the use of Deswik and a willingness to be hands-on with the tools.

Responsibilities:

The incumbent will have two primary objectives:
  • Working with the Technical Services Manager and Chief Mining Engineer to conduct a thorough audit of existing STP/MTP processes (1 to 52-week range), and where necessary realign current practices to meet the Global Best Practice standards which would be expected in a Tier 1 asset.
  • Manage the rollout of the Deswik suite of software products to site based users, including training the mine planning team on site to use the software package.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor of engineering (Mining).
  • High competency in the following Deswik modules (AdvOPM, CAD, IS, LHS, OPSTS and SPD).
  • Minimum 5-years of experience in Open Pit metal operations, preferably precious or base metals.
  • Demonstrated experience developing sustainable site-based planning systems and processes, and creating procedural documentation to support these
  • Demonstrated experience in training site-based users to operate mining software.
  • While this is an STP/MTP role, experience in LOM optimization and planning using Deswik and Whittle would be advantageous.
  • Prefer candidates who are bilingual in Spanish and English.
  • Experience working at altitude >4000m would be advantageous.
  • Strong planning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership and communications skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment with geology, mine engineering and production personnel.
  • Organized, motivated self-starter with high standards expected of themselves and others.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic fast-paced mine production environment.
