The Engineer I, II, III or Senior - Mining is responsible for a diverse range of mine planning projects that are based on sound engineering, financial, and safety principals.  As required, the Engineer will undertake mine design, mine planning, mine production reporting and project related work.

Note: There is one position available and the position will be filled at one of four job grade levels: Engineer I - Mining, job grade NB18; Engineer II - Mining, job grade NB20; Engineer III - Mining, job grade NB22 or Senior Engineer - Mining, job grade NB23. This decision will be based on the qualifications and experience of the candidate selected, and Colowyo business needs at the time of hire.

Engineer I - Mining

Hiring Salary Range: $61,000 to $76,000

Engineer II – Mining

Hiring Salary Range: $74,000 to $92,000

Engineer III - Mining

Hiring Salary Range: $90,000 to $112,000

Senior Engineer - Mining

Hiring Salary Range: $99,000 to $123,000

Actual compensation offer to candidate may vary outside of the posted hiring salary range based upon work experience, education, and/or skill level.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Promotes safety in work products and by personal example.
  • Performs short and longs range mine planning for draglines, truck shovel/loader/excavator/dozers– pit designs, scheduling, volumetrics, dragline range diagrams, drilling & blast designs, coal inventory planning.
  • Responsible for mine modeling, forecasting, and scheduling.
  • Administers to and/or performs surveying duties.
  • Performs mine production data calculations, compilation and reporting.
  • Contributes to the annual budgeting process including cost and financial analysis.
  • Coordinate and direct work with outside consulting, engineering, and construction firms. Engage consultant and subcontractors, as needed.
  • Assist in regulatory permitting, as needed.
  • Performs reclamation planning and designs.
  • Understands and promotes process improvement and change initiatives.
  • Completes other assignments, as required, to meet business needs.
  • Adhere to company policies, programs and procedures as well as Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP), Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC), Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), and Midwest Reliability Organization (MRO) standards, Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) laws and regulations and Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA).
  • Safety: Maintain safety awareness and comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures to assure a safe working environment. Properly wear and care for applicable safety gear and equipment. Identify and communicate unsafe conditions to supervisor, coworkers, and the Safety functional area and correct or assist in resolving safety concerns and issues. Must understand and comply with the Clearance Procedure as applicable.

    KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EDUCATION:

  • Requires a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.pw
  • High initiative and good work ethic.
  • Ability to multitask and deal with complex issues.
  • Strong computer skills with knowledge of AutoCAD/Carlson and Microsoft Suite. Geologic modeling and Runge software skills a plus.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) Registration or Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
