We are seeking a Senior Environmental Advisor for the Magino Mine to support environmental sampling and monitoring.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Reporting to the Environmental Superintendent (or their delegate), the Senior Environmental Advisor is a field position based at the Magino Mine site. The majority of time spent in this position will be outdoors regardless of weather conditions. This is a permanent position and the successful candidate will assist in the safe construction, operations of the Magino mine.

MAGINO MINE:

The Magino Project is a brown-fields site located in northern Ontario, Canada that contains an historical underground gold mine, landfill and tailings management facility ("TMF"). The Corporation has conducted a Feasibility Study during 2017 that examined mining the deposit using conventional open pit mining methods and extraction of gold from the ore using a 10,000 tonnes per day carbon-in-pulp ("CIP") mineral processing facility. When developed, Magino will produce around 150,000 ounces of gold during the first five years of production. The project has over a 15-year mine production life (including one year of pre-production).

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Conduct environmental sampling and implementation of surface and groundwater quality management systems.
  • Coach and mentor junior team members in environmental monitoring and sampling best practices
  • Participate in environmental modelling and ensure accurate data tracking.
  • Oversee sampling including vegetation identification and erosion monitoring.
  • Review and audit contractor environmental management systems and activities.
  • Perform plant and hydrology surveys, participate in fish capture and fish habitat projects.
  • Conduct environmental effects monitoring, including air quality and produce related reports.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Technical diploma in Environmental or Natural Sciences.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in the mining industry.
  • Solid knowledge of environmental monitoring, sampling and related documentation.
  • Experience successfully implementing surface and groundwater quality management systems.
  • A valid driver's license (G class) and the ability to safely operate snowmobiles, manual 4x4 vehicles and ATVs as required.
  • Comfortable performing rigorous outdoor activities in inclement weather, including lifting and carrying heavy equipment over rough terrain.
  • Strong computer skills, with experience documenting and reporting field notes.


ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
  • The role is located at the Magino Mine, which is approximately 88 kilometers northeast of Wawa, Ontario, Canada.
  • The ideal candidate for the role will work a rotation of four days on and three days off, 10 hour days.
