Location: Metallurgical Complex Columbus, MT

POSITION SUMMARY : The Metallurgical Complex Project Coordinator will identify the need for improvement, work with others in developing strategy, and coordinate the execution of projects/assignments in alignment with planned and sustainable production increases at the Metallurgical Complex.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: identify ineffective or inefficient processes or systems, and provide input in developing plans or strategies to remove bottlenecks and meet or exceed production targets; reinforce supervisor's communication of plans, company goals, and project objectives to employees; coordinate and conduct area inspections and safety meetings; interface with maintenance on equipment requirements in order to minimize disruptions to production; coordinate and direct the efficient and timely management of materials associated with smelter production, and, collect and accurately report data from a variety of sources.

This position requires routine communication, collaboration, and interaction with supervision and management, and will, on occasion, oversee and direct smelter operations crews on a temporary basis.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Promote and maintain a safe work environment, safe work practices, a strong safety culture, and the GET Safe Program.
  • Work with maintenance and operations supervision to maximize the availability of all Met Complex equipment in line with company operating policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with safety, environmental and certifying authority requirements.
  • Identify ineffective and/or inefficient systems, processes, or areas that impede production goals or elevate the risk for the company. Provide input in developing plans and/or strategies to increase production and/or mitigate those risks.
  • Facilitate implementation of projects and assignments while coordinating with other company personnel and management.
  • Develop a strategy and direct the efficient and timely management of materials associated with smelter production, including furnace feed, flux, slag, reverts, and used brick.
  • Supervise the hourly workforce as required on a temporary basis. Support supervisor's expectations, communicate production and safety goals, maintain production and training schedules, manage timecards, and perform record keeping duties as directed.
  • Collaborate with Smelter Operations and Training departments to develop, implement, evaluate, and modify SOP's as needed.
  • Ensure efficient and effective operating procedures. Continually look for ways to improve operations, increase production, and ensure the safety of the workforce.
  • Review and rationalize PM procedures, evaluate and optimize maintenance routines, complete Work Order requests, and coordinate maintenance activities with the Maintenance department.


QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • High school diploma and 2-5 or more years of smelting, refining, foundry, or metals processing experience; OR bachelor's degree in metallurgical engineering, process engineering, or mechanical engineering and one-year related work experience.


  • Excellent leadership abilities, including the ability to train and coach hourly employees, assist in conflict resolution and encourage teamwork.
  • Familiarity with smelting and metals processing operations and the ability to use that knowledge to identify inefficient processes and operational bottlenecks and develop strategies for improvement.
  • Knowledge of smelting production materials, and the ability to use that knowledge to manage the safe and efficient processing of those materials.
  • Working knowledge of industrial operations and maintenance including safety (OSHA Rules & Regulations), production, maintenance, economics, equipment, and environmental regulations.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to include accurate and detailed record keeping.
  • Basic computer and math skills, plus the ability to interpret and understand mechanical drawings, processing, and instrumentation diagrams, and systems flowsheets.


QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

  • Thorough knowledge of Smelter and BMR processes, operating procedures, materials, and techniques.
