Are you a Health and Safety (H&S) professional with extensive underground experience? We have an opportunity for you!

Our people division is growing, and we are looking for an Underground H&S Superintendent to join the team at our Carlin Complex. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing and managing the H&S system throughout the underground operations. These areas include direct supervision and leadership of all H&S staffing as well as providing support to the operational and support teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Site Leadership Team and other functions to develop, communicate, and lead a consistent and proportionate approach to achieving a Zero Harm Workplace.
  • Manage, supervise, and develop staff across the operation.
  • Develop and implement a budget for the UG operation.
  • Ensure implementation and compliance of H&S programs.
  • Lead all aspects of oversight for legal compliance issues that may affect NGM programs and provide advice management of sound principles and practices to support NGM values.
  • Build, maintain, and be knowledgeable about business-based reporting requirements including statistical analysis on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis or as needed.
  • Build communication strategies to guarantee that NGM goals and programs are accurately implemented/audited.
  • Identify training needs to ensure that the philosophy is maintained throughout Carlin UG.
  • Collaborate with site personnel on the tools needed to perform to the highest standards.
  • Ensure site investigations are of good quality, completed timely, and lead to actions that will minimize the event from occurring again. Manage any injuries that occur onsite in a consistent way via established processes.
  • Review high potential accidents and incidents within the region for site application.
  • Cooperate with sites to support the personal development for managers to ensure they have the accurate knowledge and skills to perform their work well.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a health sciences discipline such as Industrial Hygiene or Occupational Health and Safety or 13 years' professional experience in Health & Safety field preferred
  • Seven (7) to ten (10) years' experience in mine health and safety required
  • Three (3) to five (5) years' supervisory/management experience in occupational health and safety required
  • Five years' (5) experience in Root Cause analysis practices in industry preferred
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of the Federal Mine Safety and Health Act 1977 required
  • Prior knowledge and/or experience in industrial hygiene and MSHA regulations required
  • Prior knowledge of incident case management processes required
  • Ability to safely perform the essential functions of the position required
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced and demanding work environment required
  • Ability to develop creative solutions to complex problems and situations required
  • MSHA certified instructor (underground endorsement) preferred
  • Professional Certifications (CSMP, CSP, etc.) preferred

About Nevada Gold Mines

Nevada Gold Mines is a joint venture between Barrick Gold Corporation (61.5%) and Newmont Goldcorp Corporation (38.5%), combining their significant assets across Nevada to create the single largest gold-producing complex in the world and realize the full potential of these mines through synergies and best-in-class operational improvements.

The massive mining operation comprises 8 mines along with their associated infrastructure and processing facilities that produced an estimated 4 million ounces of gold in 2018.
