The Opportunity

We are currently seeking Environmental Science or Chemical/Environmental Engineering Students to join our Environment Department in our Sudbury Operations for May 2021.

The successful candidates will undertake the duties required to assist the Environment department mainly in the air quality regulatory requirements.

Although previous experience in mining or an industrial setting is considered an asset, we also appreciate that diversity of thought comes from our differences – and that’s what makes us great!

Education & Experience:
  • Education:
    • Completed third year and will be enrolled in their fourth year in a post-secondary program related to Environmental Science or Chemical/Environmental Engineering and be returning for their final year
  • Experience:
    • Knowledge and experience in Windows based applications and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word and PowerPoint) are essential
    • GIS knowledge is an asset
    • Experience in an industrial environment would be considered an asset


Requirements & Accountabilities:
  • Must have a Class G Driver’s License
  • Follow Vale’s Safety Policies, Programs and Legislative Standards
  • Ability to perform moderately complex mathematical calculations including simple statistics, logarithms and exponents
  • Reading, understanding and interpretation of text and concepts from a variety of sources, i.e., legal, contractual, technical theory or government regulations
  • Ability to communicate information and provide sufficient context when required, both verbally and in written form.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and work well with others in a team environment
  • Ability to present moderately complex information to a wide variety of audiences
  • Maintain a high level of professional conduct
  • Must be obsessed with safety and risk
  • Demonstrate open and transparent dialogue in all aspects of work
  • Implement focused monitoring and sampling programs related to air quality (road dust sampling, SO2 mobile sampling, in-plant TSP monitoring, etc.) independently as assigned.
  • Manage and assess data on an ongoing basis
  • Prepare comprehensive technical reports for each project assigned
  • Prepare and implement a personal safety plan
  • Ability to do outdoor physical work
  • Dayshift rotation only
