Who we're looking for:

We are looking for a Construction Technician / Engineer to ensure design compliance of the Tailings Dam construction activities, to the IFC Drawings and Technical Specifications provided by the Engineer of Record. Reporting to the Project Engineer, this is a temporary 6 to 8 month role to commence in April 2021. A permanent position may be available upon completion of this term dependent on project requirements. The responsibilities for the role will include but are not limited to:
  • Observation and documentation of construction methodology and compliance to the Technical Specifications and design intent
  • Perform in-situ density testing of compacted fills using nuclear densometer
  • Monitor and document earth-fill placement and compaction (e.g. lift thickness, material compliance, density, etc.)
  • Inspect and collect samples for Standard Proctor and gradation from placed fill areas, borrow areas, and stockpiles
  • Frequent communication with surveyors, equipment operators, field supervisors, engineers, and consultants to complete tasks
  • Prepare and distribute construction reports documenting construction activities

The successful candidate will be a highly motivated team player with strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to liaise with all the relevant parties on a daily basis. In addition, you will have:
  • A Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical, Civil or Geological Engineering is preferred
  • Mining Technology, Civil Technology Diploma or similar combination of experience / training
  • 3 years industry experience, preferably mining or heavy civil earthworks construction
  • Quality control / quality assurance experience on large earthworks projects
  • Experience with soils materials testing and/or surveying is considered an asset
  • Strong computer skills with experience using MS Office and 3D modeling software
