Financial Accounting Superintendent

Job Summary

Ensure accurate and complete accumulation and compilation of financial data for financial reports utilizing generally accepted accounting principles. Supervise the accounting group. Supervise all project accounting functions in accordance with the Controller.

Essential Functions

•Manage the scheduling, compiling and timely distribution of internal financial statements and other related management reports in compliance with established corporate reporting schedules.

•Direct the day-to-day activities of the accounting group to include but not limited to: Managing month end, quarter end and year end closing entries.

•Review bank statements, subsidiary journals and journal entries prior to posting to the General Ledger.

•Provide for the retention of financial and production records in compliance with all applicable federal state, local and corporate requirements.

•Ensure the reliability of data for proper interpretation by appropriate parties.

•Assist with the interviewing and hiring of accounting personnel.

•Train associates in accounting, company policies, and control systems in accordance with corporate and generally accepted accounting principles.

•Promote and inspire associates to high standards of accuracy and integrity.

•Monitor controls and procedures of operating and financial systems to ensure integrity and accuracy of data for internal and external audit reviews.

•Recommend and administer improvements to financial procedures and controls.

•Prepare federal, state, and local payroll tax returns' annual Mining License Tax and Production Royalty returns and other reports as required or requested.

•Direct and instruct associates in the acceptable methods of compiling the necessary documentation and obtaining approvals for payment of invoices and payrolls on a timely basis and in compliance with corporate policies and procedures.

•Assist Administrative Manager in the maintenance of the network and the installation of new software and program updates. Provide support in the backing up of all electronic financial systems to ensure the continuity of accounting operations. Assist in the administration of automated systems for accounting, warehouse, and purchasing and the Network.

•Punctuality and regular attendance are required.

•Compliance with all company policies and procedures including but not limited to safety, confidentiality and environmental policies.

•Meet or exceed established performance expectations set by management.

•Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the state.

•Work without significant risk of harm to self and others.

•Maintain accurate records and files.

•Consistent exercise of discretion and judgment in job performance.

•Responsible for conducting timely performance evaluations, recommending promotions and carrying out corrective actions as needed.

•Review documentation of accidents, injuries and equipment damage and recommend prevention strategies as necessary.

•Identify and implement systematic and procedural changes to increase the efficiency of Payroll, Accounts Payable, and Financial Reporting processes.

•Participate in Continuous Improvement teams and initiatives as assigned.

Qualifications and Skill Requirements

•Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent experience with increasing levels of responsibility.

•Budgeting and forecasting experience is preferred.

•The ability to perform cost variance analysis and assist other departments in understanding those analyses.

•Knowledge of computer based systems, generally accepted accounting principles and the ability to interpret and implement corporate policies and procedures are essential.

•Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

•Excellent administrative, organizational skills with the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

•Ability to function within the qualifications outlined in the attached physical demands sheets.

•Working knowledge and skill with a P.C. utilizing word processing and spreadsheet programs.
