Job Description
The Safety & Health Superintendent will perform a variety of technical work associated with planning, implementing, training and coordinating safety programs ensuring the company is in compliance with all applicable standards of the Mines Safety and Health Administration (MSHA). Completes tasks assigned by the Safety and Health Manager.
Responsibilities:
•Developing, optimizing processes necessary to continuously improve safety, security and health policies and procedures to ensure compliance and conformance with all legal, business and other related requirements.
•Conduct safety orientation and other related training to employees, visitor and contractors.
•Respond to employee Health, Security and Safety questions or concerns from employees, managers or site visitors.
•Educate and mentor supervisors and employees towards safer, healthier choices and behaviors.
•Auditing safety and health related performance and compliance.
•Accompany MSHA or other agencies during inspections and/or audits.
•Participate in or lead accident/incident investigations and risk assessments.
•May administer the Worker's Compensation program, including interaction with the workers compensation insurers, monitoring claims, reporting and develop and administrating lost prevention and rehabilitation.
•Inspecting and maintaining emergency response equipment to ensure readiness.
•Liaising with technical experts to deliver systems and training improvements.
Requirements:
•Minimum of a five years (5) working in a mining environment - required, surface mining and process experience a plus.
•Certification as an MSHA approved instructor for surface operations (blue card), preferred
•Experience in the design and application of emergency response programs in a mining or industrial setting, preferred
•Emergency response experience in a mining/mineral processing environment, preferred
•Professional safety certification (CSP, CIH), preferred
•Experience in accident/incident investigation, preferred
•Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternate solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
•Proven ability to develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with others and maintain them over time.
•Ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand.
