About the Opportunity:  

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Assayer - Data Approval to join the Brucejack Mine in Northwestern, British Columbia.

The Assayer (Data Approval) position is located at Pretium Exploration Inc.'s "Pretivm" Brucejack Mine and reports to the Senior Assayer or designate.    

Job Purpose and Accountability

The Data Approval Assayer’s primary responsibility is to evaluate all data submitted from different instruments and make sure all results submitted meet lab internal criteria and are ready to be submitted for final data approval. The Data Approval Assayer is familiar with instrument troubleshooting and able to carry out preventive maintenances on a routine basis and train entry level instrument operator.

Responsibilities:

  • Review and approve data submitted from various instruments, including AAS, Carbon and Sulfur Analyzer and ICP-OES and lab processes
  • Assists Senior Assayer with processing of ore samples and to determine grade, value and mineral properties
  • Ensures daily/weekly production targets are met and makes appropriate changes where necessary to streamline processes
  • Perform daily verification on a variety of lab equipment including dispensers, pipettes, analytical balances and other lab equipment
  • Prepare instrumental calibration and quality control solutions
  • Operate and maintain LECO CS844, Agilent AAS 240 FS, and Agilent ICP-OES 5800 equipment
  • Perform regular instrument inspections to confirm instrument performance and troubleshoot
  • Work closely with instrument service technicians when on site and communicate with service technicians as needed.
  • Assist the service technician or consultant to perform instrument method development
  • Plan and conduct instrumental method validation and verifications
  • Assist Chief Assayer or Senior Assayer on preparing and reviewing standard operating procedures (SOPs) on analytical instruments
  • Practice good housekeeping and maintain a clean work area
  • Ensure that all work is conducted in a safe manner in accordance with applicable legislation, company policy, standards, and procedures
  • Participates in tool box meeting, weekly safety meetings, training and development initiatives to remain current with technology, policies and procedures
  • Other duties as required by the Senior Assayer or Chief Assayer

Qualifications:

A Diploma/ Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry is advantageous combined with more than five (5) years in a similar work environment complimented with good knowledge of analytical chemistry, instrument operations, and/or mineral processing. BC Certified Assayer as an asset. A combination of experience and education will be considered.

Skills:

  • Have the ability to work safely under minimum supervision
  • Previous experience operating and troubleshooting on a variety of Geochemistry instrumentation.
  • Strong data analysis skills and data evaluation background
  • Expertise/knowledge of mineral processing and extraction
  • Excellent communication and problem solving skills
  • Effective organizational, time management and analytical skills.
  • Strong computer skills to include data processing and data base management.
  • Familiar with laboratory information management system (LIMS)

Additional Information:

  • Work at remote location (camp) on a 14 days on / 12 days off/ 2 days travelling rotation
  • Able to pass a pre-employment medical screening
  • Must be able to lift/move up to 50lbs throughout a work shift
  • Be able maintain high levels of performance over 12 hour shifts
  • Able to work in areas of extreme weather conditions
  • Able to work in close quarters with the team
