Job Title:         Senior Exploration Geologist

SUMMARY 
As a key member of the Hecla Nevada Regional Exploration team the incumbent Senior Exploration Geologist will be responsible for assuming a strategic role in leadership and direction of near mine, district, and regional exploration activities.

The Senior Exploration Geologist will work in a fast-paced, demanding, dynamic and results-driven atmosphere.  Adherence and promotion of all applicable safety, environmental and regulatory requirements is mandatory. The Senior Exploration Geologist will supervise, mentor, and advise the exploration staff team members and contractors to ensure business plans are achieved. Position-specific requirements may include generation and supervision of near mine and district drill targets, geologic mapping and sampling, budget preparation, reporting, project management, planning geophysical surveys and generation of systematic and detailed geologic maps, cross-sections, and geologic modeling.

The Senior Exploration Geologist is responsible for geological activities related to exploration as directed by the Director of Exploration and Geology.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
•    Ensure safe work environment and all required and applicable best practices are followed by Hecla Nevada employees, contractors, and visitors
•    Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements
•    Supervise and mentors’ direct reports
•    Leads regional geological interpretations
•    Detailed geologic mapping and sampling
•    Generation of geologic maps, cross-sections, geologic models, and presentation material as needed utilizing Vulcan and ArcGIS
•    Budget, plan and execute exploration and surface or underground based drilling programs
•    Log and sample drill core and chips
•    Contribute to the creation and revision of NI 43-101-compliant resource models 
•    Collect, provide, and interpret geologic data as needed
•    Provide support to various groups including Corporate, Mine Operations, Mine Engineering, Permitting/Environmental and other groups as necessary
•    Ensure alignment of Geology goals with the organizational business objectives and goals

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES 
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Hecla Nevada policies, applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE 
•    Bachelor’s Degree in Geology required, Master’s Degree in Geology, structural or epithermal focus preferred
•    7+ years of applicable experience (low sulfidation, epithermal deposits preferred)
•    Excellent safety record, self-motivated and leadership
•    Proficiency in appropriate software required, experience in Vulcan and ArcGIS are highly preferred
•    Able to thrive in a dynamic and challenging environment 
•    Good organizational skills
•    Strong verbal and written communication skills

LANGUAGE SKILLS 
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS 
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY 
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
•    Prior experience in the exploration or mining sector preferred.  
•    Must be able to work independently, as well as a member of a team.  
•    Must be self-motivated. 
•    Must have a valid driver’s license.  
•    Must have flexibility with scheduling and be willing to work early mornings, nights, and weekends as needed.
•    Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook. 
•    Must be able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing. 
•    Ability to organize and write procedures in a logical/methodical manner. 
•    Good time management skills. 
•    Excellent attention to detail. 
•    Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
•    ATF possessor’s clearance required.
•    Must complete MSHA 24-hour training or provide 5000-23 documentation of completed training.
•    Must pass pre-employment physical and drug screen.
