The Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Specialist Mechanical - Power and Utilities FIFO to Newcrest Lihir Gold Operation. Reporting to the Lead Senior Specialist your overarching responsibilities will be to direct the day to day operational and mechanical maintenance activities of the P&U teams in order to deliver reliability & minimum interruption to facilities during regular operations & provide technical support during plant shutdowns.

Other duties will include:
  • Maintain and improve the reliability of all Power and Utilities assets through the facilitation of technical problem-solving, exercises, time management and forward planning.
  • Collaborate with and provide technical inputs to the Senior Reliability Engineer into the cause(s) of component failures.
  • Initiate and participate in continuous improvement initiatives which will assist in enhancing the safe performance of the process plant operation through rate increase and cost reduction.
  • Ensures the Power and Utilities mechanical maintenance team activities meet the company's business needs through implementation of preventative maintenance strategies and systems that maximise availability of all Power and Utility assets.
  • Provides guidance to the department's maintenance teams to maintain all equipment to a high standard to ensure high equipment availability.
  • The role also includes at times directing and supervising contractor personnel in the performance of their duties with emphasis on critical path shutdown works.
  • Develops short to mid-term plans, tasks and actions to achieve business performance goals within the Power and Utilities department, timeline & budget constraints whilst monitoring progress and solving problems as they occur.
  • Effectively manages costs within team's business area including participation in the budgeting process, financial analysis & cost benefit assessments.
  • Effectively collaborate and working closely with a team of around 50 personnel.


Skills, Qualifications and Experience:
  • Relevant qualified Engineering degree or advanced diploma desirable.
  • Relevant trades qualification or certification desirable.
  • Certificate in Workplace Assessment and Training or similar highly desirable.
  • 7+ years relevant work experience.
  • SAP experience essential.
  • Significant experience across Mechanical fixed plant maintenance ideally within a Power and Utilities setting within a mining context.
  • Experience in maintenance of large process plants including planning and executing.
  • Proficient in English with excellent verbal, written communication and public speaking skills.
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office suite and Excel essential.
  • Sound planning, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure and autonomously and through leading a team.
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills to meet deadlines.
  • Strong active listening & interpersonal skills for rapport building, conflict resolution, training and development.


Requirements
  • Willing to work at Lihir Gold Limited in Papua New Guinea fly in fly out.
  • Ability to provide/obtain valid police clearance.
  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment medical assessment.
