Electrical Superintendent

Barrick is looking for an Electrical Superintendent to join the Fixed Plant Maintenance team. This role will manage safe and efficient operation and maintenance of all Barrick Pueblo Viejo site electrical apparatus within the mine site lease and coordinate the maintenance, operations and distribution activities of the electrical and instrumentation systems, within the site, to meet business objectives through oversight and maintenance of process plant, camps, workshops, buildings electrical and air conditioning equipment, as well as maintenance of the fire water protection system across the site.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead the implementation the performance of risk assessments of the site electrical operations and maintenance activities with the goal of determining the critical tasks and scopes. This will be the foundation for the creation of SOP's and workplace inspections. Develop, write and review these procedures and inspections.
  • Promote a safe, efficient and effective work culture focused on continuous improvement and achievement to obtain a sense of belonging from our collaborators.
  • Lead and ensure the compliance of safety procedures and protocols the site electrical team, maintenance and testing of electrical safety systems including the revision and upkeep of the PV-PO-10020 PVDC Electrical Safety Policy and the PV-P-30598 High Voltage Work Procedure.
  • Stablish and ensure the application of the safety and statutory checks for electrical and Instrumentation Equipment, to promote a safe work environment, identify hazards and control or reduce incidents related to electricity.
  • Oversight the maintenance of the electrical distribution within the mine site, including the High Voltage Sub-station apparatus, E-Rooms and apparatus, 34.5kv and 4.16kv overhead power line distribution systems, transformers and emergency back-up generators to ensure the supply of energy required for the proper functioning of the plant.
  • Oversight the maintenance of Process Plant, Water Distribution and Mining Electrical equipment within the mine site, including all pump stations, pit de-watering, motor maintenance, cables, drives, HVAC and air-conditioning systems etc. to ensure the operation of the facilities and equipment of the plant for production.
  • Ensure and oversight the maintenance and calibration of the process plant, water distribution and mining Instrumentation equipment within the mine site, including all radiation sources and certified training of RSO's onsite to ensure the proper functioning of them.
  • Oversight and maintenance of PVDC's Fire Monitoring and Water Suppression Systems, including an NFPA certified annual inspection and report for Insurance purposes.
  • In partnership with the planning and reliability personnel, develop and refine the electrical maintenance strategies and programs to implement an optimal management of the maintenance of the assets and / or systems of the plant.
  • Defining the training requirements and establishing a comprehensive training needs analysis matrix for national personnel in the electrical and instrumentation fields to promote in our human talent to have a positive attitude and greater self-confidence, with a good successful performance in their job.
  • Ensure critical spares are identified and their stored condition allows for immediate availability as well as identify, source, store and manage the testing of any specialized safety PPE, and the maintenance of all hand and power tools within the area of responsibility to guarantee the availability of resources for the works.
  • Monitor and control site electrical department operating and maintenance costs, and actively contribute to annual budget preparation.
  • Manage annual Insurance Risk Assessment site visit and track recommendations to completion to act as site liaison for all machinery and risk insurance related issues.
  • Develop and maintain the preventive/corrective maintenance plans and maintenance improvement projects to short, medium- and long-term in collaboration with mechanical, operations, reliability and planning groups with the purpose to provide safe reliable equipment, continuously improving our safety and production.

  • Qualifications:
    • Trade Certificate or Journeyman qualifications
    • Technical Background / Trade certificate with current Electrical License / Journeyman, preferred.
    • Tertiary qualifications in electrical engineering, or similar, preferred.
    • Spanish (or the desire to learn)
    • English an advantage
    • Software Knowledge: Microsoft Office, PI - Process Index, Oracle R12 / Viziya, AutoCAD
    • Sound Knowledge of Power Systems Distribution, Process Plants, Electrical and Instrumentation Maintenance.
    • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a Senior Electrical Leadership Role
    • Minimum 15 Years' experience in the Electrical or Instrumentation maintenance field
