Reporting to the Director Water, the Manager, Water Monitoring and Planning is responsible for delivering on objectives related to water monitoring, compliance, and planning. You will manage a team of technical professionals in the Environment and Social Responsibility group, ensuring the right people are in the rights roles and the team is functioning effectively to deliver water related requirements.

To be successful we are looking for someone with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, who is able to communicate in a clear and understandable format suitable for the intended audience and gain resolution. Someone with exceptional attention to detail, who is adaptable and able to prioritize demands in a fast-paced environment. Above all else, we require an individual who has outstanding critical thinking and problem solving abilities, who can give strategic direction and lead a team.

Responsibilities :
  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Foster a team culture of inclusivity and collaboration through mentorship, empowerment, and engagement
  • Manage the water team to embrace opportunities and remove obstacles to deliver on programs and projects
  • Develop and support strategy on Elk Valley Water Quality Plan implementation, including tributary and watershed management and treatment to meet environmental and business objectives and regulatory requirements
  • Integrate water quality, calcite, and fish mitigation
  • Identify strategic risks to projects that need technical and regulatory solutions supported by defensible programs
  • Lead regulatory engagement to address water quality and quantity issues and advise on management decisions related to stewardship initiatives, regional permit amendments and regulatory processes
  • Participate in Teck’s Water Management Committee to identify key water risks, inform risk mitigation options and strategy, and implement activities to support ongoing mining operations
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with government agencies, Aboriginal groups, and other local communities of interest to support implementation of the Elk Valley Water Quality Plan
  • Develop and maintain guidance documents to support organizational change for the many diverse programs associated with water
  • Ensure annual budgeting and scheduling meet regulatory and business commitments


Qualifications :
  • Engineering or Science degree in an environmental-related field
  • Hold a professional designation and meet the BC provincial requirements of a qualified professional for applicable monitoring and assessment programs would be an asset
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience providing leadership on water related risks associated with resource management
  • Knowledge and experience with federal and provincial compliance practices and regulations related to water quality and quantity, water management, and resource development
  • Experience supervising a team of professionals
  • Technical understanding of water chemistry and experience with risk evaluation related to water quality, quantity, and receptors (aquatic and human health)
  • Excellent project management experience with a track record that includes management and technical direction of multiple environmental projects and budgets in excess of $5 million
