Reporting to the Senior Specialist, Regulatory Approvals, the Environmental Coordinator, Regulatory Approvals is responsible for supporting work to acquire regulatory approvals for major water quality management or mine development projects across our five operations in the Elk Valley. This role is based at our office in Sparwood, BC and requires the ability to travel to the operations.

Responsibilities :
  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Support implementation of the Social, Environmental, and Regulatory Approvals (SERA) aspects of major mine development or water treatment projects, through coordination of permitting activities
  • Schedule and coordinate consulting teams for implementing environmental baseline programs and related reporting
  • Coordinate health and safety requirements for implementing field programs, including spending time directly in the field
  • Assist with the preparation of management plans, Request-for-Proposals, and proposal review processes
  • Track responses to comments and information requests and coordinate meetings and engagement events with government and Indigenous nations
  • Prepare status summaries, schedule reporting materials, and work with managers on approval of documentation
  • Provide technical, administrative, and project management support for permitting projects, such as permitting schedule, budget, scope changes, risk log, and document control
  • Support transition of permit approvals to the operations teams


Qualifications :
  • Degree or diploma in Forestry, Biology, Agriculture, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or other related field
  • Minimum three years of professional experience in environmental management, environmental assessment, or regulatory field
  • Experience in preparing or coordinating permitting applications in the resource development industry, or demonstrated similar work
  • Knowledge and experience with permitting under the following B.C. legislation is an asset: Mines Act, Water Sustainability Act, Environmental Management Act, and Forest Act
  • Experience with impact assessment work would be beneficial
