Our client, Lihir Gold Limited operates one of the largest gold mines in Papua New Guinea 900kms north-east of Port Moresby on the tropical Niolam Island (Lihir Island). The Role

We are seeking a Senior Specialist - Instrumentation to work autonomously on site and remotely. You will be responsible to coordinate safely the Instrumentation and Control system maintenance activities to support the Oxygen Plant; resolve equipment performance and maintenance issues and to enure all instrumentation and control system installations comply with all relevant statutory and safety requirements.

Qualifications Skills & Experience
  • Advanced diploma or tertiary level Engineering degree desirable
  • Australian, New Zealand or PNG Power Electrical Licenses essential
  • Dual Electrical & Instrumentation trades qualification or certification essential
  • 10+ years relevant work experience
  • Extensive experience within a large-scale complex processing plant
  • Gas plant or cryogenic control system experience
  • Working knowledge of Foxborough control system maintenance, development and implementatation
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure and autonomously
  • Flexibility to work on site and remotely to an irregular roster schedule
  • Advanced analytical skills for fault finding / diagnosis and repair of faulty instrumentation, control wiring systems and process control interface
  • Advanced understanding of the principals associated with the installation, repair and calibration of industrial instrumentation including flow, pressure, temperature, density, position and chemical analysis instruments
  • Proficient in the reading / interpretation and accurate updating of instrumentation drawings.
  • Good understanding of formal project management skills, practices and methodologies.
  • Previous experience working in a remote location in a developing country advantageous, but not essential
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office suite and SAP or similar


Mobilisation Requirements:
  • Must be open to work FIFO in PNG
  • Ability to provide/obtain valid police clearance
  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment medical assessment
