Position Overview

Do you want an inside look into the Field Engineer profession that will inspire you as you make career plans for the future? This paid high school internship will give you hands-on experiences and help you develop industry knowledge to jump-start your career! This position will support either our Underground District (specializes in underground construction and tunneling) or Kiewit Foundations Co. (specializes in complex geotechnical projects).

District Overview

The Underground District has been constructing underground facilities (tunneling, deep foundations) since 1949, and has completed more than 100 underground-related projects totaling more than $1B. Looking for hands-on, engineers excited to be both in the field and office supporting project and estimating work.

Location

Connected to Kiewit University, the new Kiewit Plaza provides a modern, state-of-the-art venue in the emerging Builders' District north of downtown Omaha.

Responsibilities

  • Engineering, operation planning, cost control, project scheduling, quantity tracking, material procurement, contract administration, & estimating
  • Performing engineering tasks requiring standard techniques and handling minor problems of a technical nature arising during construction
  • Review and analyze data relative to the project, complete plans and specification reviews for projects, assist with the preparation of a bid
  • Design and present an End of Program Presentation to showcase your work and development throughout this internship


Qualifications

  • Must be a student in an Intern Omaha Partner School District and must participate in Intern Omaha program for the duration of the internship
  • Must be an incoming high school senior, 16 years of age or older
  • Ability to work from assigned Omaha office for the duration of the internship
  • Genuine interest and passion for the field of engineering
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to maintain excellent attendance
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen and background check


Preferred Skills:
  • Interest in civil engineering, geotechnical engineering, mining or construction
  • Technical knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Customer service and leadership experience


Work Schedule:
  • Summer: Full-Time, 40 hours per week
  • School Year: Part-Time, 10-20 hours per week
  • Must be able to meet the hour requirements between the hours of 8am to 5pm, Monday through Friday
