Job Description

Provides analytical and project management support for various Operations Strategy programs and projects, from cross-site programs, to high-priority individual site support projects and business cases. Contributes to each project by combining experience and business judgment, with financial and technical analysis, the development and delivery of senior-level communications materials, collaborative project management, and other diagnostic and support tools.

The position will report to a Senior Manager or Director within the Operations Strategy Team supporting the development of the Chulbatkan Project in Russia

Job Responsibilities

Provide analytical and project management support for Project Value Assurance (PVA) programs and projects, from direct project team involvement in high-priority capital projects to broader company-wide project monitoring and reporting.
  • Generally speaking, support Kinross and its sites and projects in making strategic project decisions through analysis, business case development, modelling and impactful communication.
  • Working with project team members, contractors, and other corporate and regional personnel, assist in developing and implementing the execution of initiatives to assist in the successful delivery of Kinross projects.
  • With proper Management support and guidance, perform error-free and insightful analysis, financial or otherwise, that supports site, cross-site or Corporate projects.
  • Assist in the development of project studies at various stages of maturity, providing analytical support including economic modelling and trade-off studies, as well as support for various project management activities.
  • Provide analysis that assists in decision making around development and implementation of high priority capital projects at Kinross. Working with other members of the PVA team, present recommendations and status updates to key stakeholders.
  • Participate in comprehensive reviews of projects in study and execution. Develop databases, tools and processing for benchmarking project assumptions at a granular level.
  • Supports broader corporate global programs outside of own area, such as Working Capital, the Kinross Way for Supply Chain and Maintenance, etc.
  • Supports the analysis and preparation of communication materials for capital requests, Strategic Business Cases, and the Strategic Business Planning process in general.
  • Performs analysis and coordination on technical and financial due diligence activities for Mergers and Acquisitions.

Other, general support as required:
  • Analyzes and interprets data (e.g. operating metrics like: tons hauled; equipment efficiency; downtime due to maintenance, operating constraints and suboptimal performance).
  • Responds to a variety of internal and / or external requests, some may require advanced problem-solving approaches with assistance from others as needed.
  • Prepares straightforward communication materials, manuals, and other written materials related to evaluations, technical issues, programs, or systems.
  • Help to coordinate, maintain and improve project financial models via error free analysis of mainly DCF models, carrying out sensitivity analysis as well as coordinating sourcing of relevant inputs from various stakeholders as required


Education and Experience

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, accounting or finance or a related field.


Experience
  • 3 to 5 years experience in the mining industry or another natural resource industry, and/or with a major consultancy.
  • Experience in technical (e.g. mining or project study or execution-related) or Management consulting would be a major asset.
  • Experience with and exposure to financial and strategic modeling in an asset-intensive industry (preferably mining).


Skills

  • Strong technical, operational and financial analytical capabilities.
  • Strong skills in Excel: experience building financial models, and ability to perform analysis to pinpoint opportunities for improvement.
  • Highly collaborative work style in working with highly skilled corporate, regional and mine site staff (both technical and financial) using influence skills rather than formal reporting authority.
  • Flexible, fast learner that can come up to speed on a problem in an unfamiliar area to start adding value quickly.
  • Ability to handle significant variations in workload in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills: ability to explain and present complex information in a straightforward way.
  • Well organized, works well independently and in team settings.
  • Conversational French, Spanish, Portuguese or Russian is an asset, but not a requirement.
  • Ability to function within the following travel requirements: some travel to remote mine sites in Mauritania, Ghana, Chile, Brazil, Nevada, Washington State, Alaska and Far East Russia. The expectation is that the role could require from 1 - 2 weeks of travel out of every 4 weeks.
