We are looking for an Environmental Health Officer to work within the Site services team in Weipa.

Reporting to the Coordinator Communities and working a Monday to Friday, 44 hour work week roster, you will:
  • Administer, investigate and enforce provisions of environmental and public health legislation;
  • Implement and administer WTA's Trade Waste Policy, Trade Waste Environmental Management Plan and Trade Waste Program;
  • Implement and manage the Drinking Water Quality Management Plan compliance including maintaining documents, monitoring records and reporting requirements;
  • Identify and manage environmental health risks and complaints, liaising with government agencies as required;
  • Manage WTA contract for Domestic Waste Collection to ensure safety and efficiency;
  • Provide education and communication to the public, businesses and RT Weipa regarding compliance with legislation and risk management for environmental health risk;
  • Liaise with other Local Governments and State Government Agencies on environmental and public health matters;
  • Contribute to the success of the Communities Department's responsibilities under the Strategic and Operational Plans.

What you will bring
  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team;
  • A relevant tertiary qualification in the field of Environment Health that is accepted by Environmental Health Australia;
  • Demonstrable knowledge of Environmental Health and Trade Waste legislation and Australian Standards;
  • Proven ability to conduct inspections and investigations on a community level;
  • Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills, including customer service and time management skills;
  • The ability to research, analyse or investigate issues and write concise professional reports;
  • Proven ability to exercise judgement and contribute critical knowledge and skills where procedures are not clearly defined.

Weipa - Rio Tinto Weipa is located 900km north-west of Cairns on the Gulf of Carpentaria and has been operating for over 50 years. Weipa offers a coastal community rich in geographical beauty and cultural heritage that provides families with opportunities to participate in leisure activities, sports and community events. With a strong sense of community, the region has plenty of natural beauty to offer including the opportunities for boating, fishing, camping and exploring. Construction of the Amrun mining operation, located 40 kilometres southwest of Weipa, was completed in late 2018 expanding our bauxite operations to continue production from one of the world's premier bauxite deposits.
