This will report to the Sustainability & External Relations Manager.

Purpose

To support Porcupine's sustainability program, to ensure our multiple mines are operating in an environmentally responsible manner by developing and maintaining appropriate management systems and to ensure all current and proposed site activities operate in compliance with applicable environmental legislation.

Essential Duties

Essential Job Duties

Regulatory Compliance of Existing Properties/ Permitting of new and existing facilities
  • Ensure compliance with all permits and approvals held by all Porcupine active and inactive operations.
  • Ensure that all required permits and approvals are in place, amended and/or renewed in a timely manner.
  • Obtain proper permitting from government agencies when pertaining to operations, exploration, inactive sites and projects.
  • Champion the site Water Strategy or all Porcupine operations
  • Support the S&ER Department to report, investigate environmental events.
  • Lead where required and support required external and internal reporting is met and submitted in a timely fashion.
  • Maintain good relationship with government agencies, represent the company in government inspections/investigation, be available for emergency call-outs
  • Lead the development, implementation and management of all site S&ER management systems documentation
  • Maintaining Environmental Emergency Response Plans including Spill Prevention and Contingency Plan for all operations
  • Support the implementation of site and corporate commitments (International Cyanide Management Code, ICMM, MAC-TSM)
  • Support compliance monitoring data management activities.
  • Support budget preparations and work within the constraint of the budget
  • Support the site Closure Team in all permitting and management system requirements
  • On call for environmental emergencies and spills


Environmental Awareness and Training

  • Maintain a good relationship with PGM's internal departments through open communication and department visibility in the workforce
  • Provide environmental training and awareness for PGM personnel and contractors
  • Attend and participate in morning Fatality Risk Management meetings/huddles
  • Perform various environmental, workplace and safety inspections throughout the operations


Education, Training & Experience

  • A Bachelor of Science in Environmental or other related Engineering field, Bachelor of Environmental Science, or Diploma in Environmental Technology
  • 5 years in the mining industry or related experience with exposure to formal Environmental Management System, compliance, and permitting
  • Must be able to take a practical approach to environmental management.
  • 3-5 years of supervision and management of contractors and consultants
  • Effective communication and organization skills,
  • Strong PC skills, experience with various field equipment,
  • Ability to interact with internal staff, external agencies to meet all deadlines.
