Fort Knox is an open-pit gold mine located near Fairbanks, Alaska in one of the largest gold producing areas of the state. It is mined by conventional open-pit methods, with ore processed at a mill and heap leach facility. Fort Knox has one of the few cold weather heap leach facilities in the world.

Job Description

Provides non-technical general labor and equipment operation support for the mobile maintenance department; performs grounds/facility maintenance, equipment/machine checks and repairs, snow removal; basic use of hand tools and small machinery; and operates heavy equipment (trucks/loaders).

Job Responsibilities

• Responsible for building, site, and shop cleanup (including but not limited to work areas and tools and equipment).
• Assists mechanic in carrying machine parts and tools and materials to and from the job, lifts and holds parts, cleans up work areas, etc.
• Performs equipment walk around, inspects and operates equipment, cleans and washes equipment and machinery, and properly disposes of waste.
• Operates and maintains waste oil burners and trash incinerator.
• Punctuality and regular attendance are required.
• Compliance with all company policies and procedures including but not limited to safety, confidentiality and environmental policies.
• Meet or exceed established performance expectations set by management.
• Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the state.
• Work without significant risk of harm to self and others.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Employee must have sufficient education to read and write instructions, perform simple mathematical calculations, and keep records.
• Experience in building, site and shop maintenance and cleanup preferred.
• Experience in oil burners and boilers is a plus.
• Ability to work without constant, direct supervision.
• Ability to work with others in a team environment.
• Involves lifting and moving various materials in weights up to 75 or more pounds.
• Must have solid verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to read and understand repair manuals and prints.

Reporting Relationships

• Works under the direct supervision of the Mobile Maintenance Supervisor
