Summary

The person in this position will work as part of multidisciplinary teams on civil engineering projects. Responsibilities will include providing computer-aided drafting; processing survey data; performing grading design; developing and managing project CAD file structures, base files, planimetric, 3D design surfaces, pipe networks, and construction drawings and renderings; determining quantities for cost estimating; and preparing reports. Additional responsibilities may involve working with engineers to design earthwork and utility projects, assisting with specifications, and providing construction observation and administration assistance, surveying, and monitoring. Work may involve out-of-town assignments.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate degree or certificate in civil technology or related field or equivalent experience in a related area of practice
  • Understanding of civil design principles and grading
  • Proficiency in 3D surface creation
  • Proficiency in earthwork volumetric computations
  • Familiarity with at least one of the following CADD civil design software programs: Autodesk Civil 3D, Bentley InRoads, or GEOPAK
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Windows OS and Microsoft Office software
  • Ability and willingness to conduct fieldwork independently
  • Flexible working style, self-initiative, and self-motivation as well as a willingness to work as part of a team to meet clients’ needs and project schedules
  • Thorough and organized approach to work and attention to detail
  • Conscientiousness concerning the accuracy, appropriateness, and timeliness of results
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with project team members and clients
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship
  • Acceptable driving record

Preferred Qualifications
  • 2 years of experience working on projects directly related to responsibilities described above at a consulting engineering firm
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS
  • Familiarity with CADD administrative responsibilities and software including ProjectWise or other document management applications
  • Experience in developing, using, and interpreting construction and site development plans
  • Experience with construction observation and documentation
  • Experience preparing cost estimates for feasibility and construction projects
  • Experience preparing construction drawings and specifications
  • Experience working on projects for state and federal agencies
  • Basic understanding of surveying principles


NOTE: Applicant must be able to work in locations that feature rough terrain typical of construction sites. Work may also require entering and working within facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. An OSHA-mandated physical exam may be required. Safety training will be provided.
