Reporting to the Lead, Environment, the Environmental Coordinator, Systems is responsible for the continual improvement of Line Creek Operations environmental performance through proactive management of a registered ISO 14001:2015 environmental management system (EMS). This system manages and mitigates potential water, air, and waste environmental impacts of an open pit metallurgical coal mine. As part of the maintenance and continual improvement of the EMS, you will be involved in the ongoing management of, and compliance with, regional and site-specific regulatory permits as well as ensuring the site meets Teck internal environmental requirements.

To be successful we are looking for someone with strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, who can coordinate the efforts of others to accomplish objectives. In this role you will have the opportunity to work on site at our Line Creek Operations, with a portion of your time spent in the field. Responsibilities :
  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Aid in the coordination, maintenance, and continual improvement of the environmental management system to achieve regulatory, site, business unit, and corporate objectives
  • Participate in internal and external audits
  • Maintain environmental management system documentation
  • Prepare quarterly and annual reports for air and waste permits
  • Prepare corporate sustainability reports and submit release reports to regulators
  • Participate in field sampling and environmental and safety inspections
  • Aid in the management of an on-site soil treatment facility
  • Collaborate closely with corporate, business unit, and site staff from other departments to align and promote continual improvement in environmental performance
  • Supervise contractors to ensure work is being conducted safely and in accordance with project scope
  • Perform data analysis and address key questions or issues
  • Understand applicable permits and associated requirements
  • Develop and review Environmental, Health, Safety, and Community Work Plans as well as Environmental Protection Work Plans


Qualifications :
  • Degree or diploma in engineering or environmental science, or other related subject area
  • Minimum four years demonstrated ability in the field of environmental management, compliance, or monitoring, in an industrial environment
  • Experience supervising or leading a team
  • Comfortable in promoting change through influence rather than direct authority
  • Project management experience
  • Experience with environmental data management software (GIS/EQuIS) and proficient with Microsoft Office Suite®
  • Knowledge of relevant environmental and waste legislation, standards, and effective industry practices
  • Auditing experience in environmental programs in a heavy industry setting would be an asset
