Job Summary

Entry level position reporting to the Chief Mine Geologist. Works to ensure mine plans and short and long-term production forecasts are met. The Pit Geologist will ensure economic recovery and processing of minable ore reserves are in accordance with the mine plans and provides real-time updates.

Responsibilities

•Complies with all MSHA and company policies and procedures. Ensures work is completed in a safe manner and reports safety hazards as soon as they are known.

•Creates geological maps in identification of ore grade control and procedures. Reads, interprets and assists in the design of ore models

•Makes observations of and reports on lithology, structure, alteration and characterization of oxide and sulfide ore zones

•Engages with short and long-term mine planning Interprets geology to generate timely geologic maps to be used with ore control assay data and performs pit mapping

•Utilizes basic to advanced statistical software tools and mining software to evaluate data sets including blast hole and development drill hole assays

•Determines actual mined production versus resource model reconciliation for ore tons/grade

•Adjusts, as reviews and analysis dictates, the blast hole sampling methods and techniques

•As required, assists in ore control pin flagging and blast hole sample pickup

•Optimize grade controls and minimizes dilution

•Monitors operations and reviews to ensure correct movement of ore/waste to proper stockpiles/dumps

•Monitor slope stability for mining plan and model development through identification, inspection and measuring

•Perform inspections, calibrations and sampling

•Maintains accurate detailed records and archives, document control

Requirements

•Bachelor's degree in Geology. Preferred experience in ore control, logging of blast hole cuttings and geologic mapping

•Familiarity with complex geology of volcanic hosted ore deposits

•Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

•Effective oral and written communications skills

•Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs unassisted

Work Conditions

•Ability to work rotating day and, on occasion, night shifts may be required

•Ability to work overtime as required

•Ability to work in all weather conditions and in natural/uneven terrain; walking, bending, reaching, lifting and moving gear or equipment

•Personal protective equipment is required when performing this work (safety shoes, hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, respirator, etc as needed)
