Summary

The person in this position will report to the Health and Safety Program Manager and is responsible for industrial hygiene subject matter expertise and support services in collaboration with the Barr Corporate Safety Team. Barr’s Project Support Services department encompasses Safety, Equipment, and a Project Management Resources Group. The position includes providing internal support for Barr employees and external support for Barr clients. Work may be performed remotely and at project sites throughout the United States.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Participate in identifying hazards in work environments (e.g., surveys, investigations, assessments) that may cause illness, injury, disease, or impaired well-being and recommending control measures
  • Integrate established industrial hygiene principles and concepts to support respiratory protection, indoor air quality, and environmental compliance
  • Coordinate and conduct hygiene assessments to determine hazardous exposures and the effectiveness of existing control measures
  • Review existing programs, policies, and procedures and provide corrective action guidance for identified industrial hygiene deficiencies
  • Identify the need for exposure-based medical surveillance
  • Provide guidance and recommendations concerning the selection, use, and maintenance of personal protective equipment
  • Remain current with developments in and interpretation of OSHA regulations and standards
  • Provide oversight for Barr’s Hazardous Waste program
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Certified Industrial Hygienist [CIH] certification by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in science (chemistry, physics, biology, or other science discipline) or engineering
  • 10+ years of industrial, construction, hazardous waste, and/or consulting experience as an industrial hygienist or occupational safety and health
  • specialist
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with project team members and clients
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness
  • Strong technical and problem-solving skills
  • A flexible working style and the ability to work independently and with teams of specialists to meet client and project needs
  • Superior task management skills, including scheduling, prioritizing, and following-up
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship
  • Acceptable driving record

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in industrial hygiene, environmental health and safety, or related discipline from an accredited institution
  • Certified Hazardous Materials Manager [CHMM] certification by the Institute of Hazardous Materials Management
