CSG Talent is working closely with a major Mining company producing heavy mineral sands to support their search for a number of experienced Mine Superintendent. The role is FIFO 8/4 from any country in Africa.

As the Mine Superintendent, you will be instrumental in building and maintaining high performing teams; providing comprehensive mentorship and leadership across the work group, whilst ensuring your teams operate with the highest regard to safety. 

The purpose of this job is to supervise shift Supervisors and to maximize production operations in accordance with predetermined procedures, plans and standards.


Reporting to the Mine Manager, you will be responsible for coordinating the Mine Development activities, budget, plans, production, maintain equipment availability standards and, ensuring compliance within these to deliver the quarterly plan to budget in a proactive safe manner, guiding, directing, and motivating subordinates.


The ideal candidate for the Mine Superintendent role will bring strong leadership skills and ensure the mine development team are adequately resourced and capable of achieving the scheduled targets and KPI's in a safe, efficient, and productive manner.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with technical services, mine planning, and geology groups to set up short-term and long-term mine plans; manage production employees to implement plans and maintain targeted production.
  • Communicate with the site team on a daily basis regarding issues will impact production or the mill.
  • Create weekly, monthly, and annual mine plans; communicate these plans to front line supervision and follow-up daily with status reports.
  • Manage the safety process by participating in regular safety meetings and observing employees engaged in normal work practices and looking for possible improvements.
  • Review production and maintenance reports on a daily basis, communicate equipment needs to maintenance, and assist mine supervisors in decision-making.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Complete yearly budgeting process for department.

Education & Experience:

  • 10 years or more of experience in mine operations management and capital project management.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering or related engineering field.
  • Or the National Higher Diploma

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Mineral Sands experience is preferred 
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite, ERP, financial & time management systems.
  • Knowledge of regulatory agency requirements.
  • Knowledge of mine safety laws.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
