Gold Fields - St Ives is currently seeking an Engineer: Mine Planning & Infrastructure to join their Underground Mining department at Invincible. This rare opportunity will allow the successful candidate to work across both the planning and infrastructure functions, building solid foundations for a pathway into future senior roles.

Reporting to the Senior Mining Engineer, you will be responsible for facilitating the optimal extraction of gold ore from mining operations through comprehensive mine and infrastructure planning, design and scheduling that achieves the short-long term business objectives. Invincible Underground, a multi-mine complex, is currently undergoing a significant growth phase with an ever-expanding orebody open at both strike and depth.

This role is offered on an 8 days on 6 days off roster and would require the incumbent to be residential in Kambalda or Kalgoorlie. Fly-in-fly-out options will also be considered for the right candidate.

Key responsibilities will include;
  • Always act in a manner that seeks to enhance the safety culture and performance of GFA and ensures that the Vital Behaviours are always adhered to
  • Mine planning design work, level/area extraction plans, three-month schedule and infrastructure requirements
  • Design and optimise underground mine design infrastructure across multiple mines to support the Life-of-Mine strategy including but not limited to, level and stope designs, scheduling, ventilation, mine services, fuel bay, dewatering, pastefill, escapeway installations, surface infrastructure to support underground
  • Assist in the coordination of activities relating to underground infrastructure and ensure that they are consistently aligned and monitored to meet safety and operational targets
  • Competency in underground ventilation and statutory requirements, acting in the capacity of Ventilation Officer or Deputy, responsible for maintaining and updating the Ventsim model
  • Managing pastefill activities and design requirements in conjunction with the Pastefill Crew and Foreman, generating pastefill notes, reticulation designs and liaising with other departments
  • Project and contractor management for both short- long term infrastructure projects
  • Seek stakeholder engagement communicate key information to relevant parties, working closely with the onsite Fixed Plant department
  • Responsible for maintaining an up-to-date infrastructure schedule, with strict project delivery guidelines, actively tracking project costs and compliance to the capital budget


Key factors to your success
  • Autonomous, driven, team orientated and safety conscious individual
  • Tertiary Qualifications in a Mining Engineering or a related discipline
  • 4-5 years underground engineering experience with exposure to longhole drilling, blasting, ventilation, projects, paste fill, short term planning and scheduling
  • Enthusiasm and drive for continuous improvement, new technology and site optimisation
  • Competent report writing, presentation and communication skills to all levels of the business
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite, and mining software Deswik CAD and Scheduler (a must) and Ventsim
  • Underground practical experience essential
  • A WA Shift Supervisors Certificate or WA First Class Mine Managers Certificate of Competency would be highly regarded, however not essential
