Hatch in Halifax, NS and Saint John, NB (both locations considered) is actively seeking a Mechanical Engineer to work as an integral part of our Infrastructure group.

Responsibilities will include:

• Engineer of Record (building services) for commercial and light industrial buildings
• Detailed design of HVAC, fire suppression, plumbing, code compliance
• Supervision of modeling/drafting team for project assignments
• Check and review of modeling teams’ work, markup for corrections
• Input into to design documents (design briefs, functional requirements)
• Contribution to the mechanical component of capital cost estimates
• Contribution to the mechanical components of RFP preparation and fee estimating
• Mentorship of junior mechanical engineers and design staff
• Business development (secondary role)
• Work with project managers and other discipline leads on projects of various complexity and sizes;
• Understanding of local codes and standards such as building codes, NFPA standards, and ASHRAE guidelines;
• Solid knowledge of Building Mechanical Systems
• Review reports, calculations, specifications, plans, studies, and designs for varying types of underground and municipal infrastructure projects;
• Evaluate, and apply engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to be used by the mechanical team

Qualifications:

• 10+ years’ experience in Mechanical Engineering Design (HVAC & Plumbing, Piping, mechanical equipment modeling and selection, ventilation and fire life safety);
• Experience workin on underground infrastructure projects;
• Site inspection experience required;
• Minimum Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering;
• Strong communication and technical writing skills;
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
