Description

Under limited supervision, the scope of this role includes oversight for all electric, water, and wastewater utility activities. This includes overseeing all safety performance, preparing all capital and operating budgets, administering maintenance programs, system improvements, creating and updating procedures, contract management, administering mandated programs and policies, providing customer service and coordinating responses to regulatory bodies for customer complaints, as well as many other business management functions. This position will also manage, coordinate and control the safe and efficient operation of the Utility Company through subordinate supervisor(s) and employees.
  • Promote safe and reliable operations of all utility services in a manner that maintains environmental and regulatory compliance with all stated and federal laws, including the administration of all mandated programs by the Arizona Corporation Commission.
  • Directly and indirectly manage the daily activities and professional development of both exempt and non-exempt staff, including the office personnel, supervisor(s), utility operators, maintenance technicians.
  • Review, investigate, analyze and develop appropriate recommendations on operational issues, cost savings opportunities, forecast models, billing system administration, compliance, customer complaints, and system improvements.
  • Contribute to strategic planning, budgeting, monitoring and controlling expenditures and schedules for both operations and project execution for all initiatives within the utility. Develops and evaluates justifications for capital work plans and funding requests.
  • Coordination with outside resources such as environmental health and safety, accounting, legal, global supply chain community development, communications, and government relations.
  • Collaborate across the organization to support other utilities on areas of subject matter expertise, operational issues, and sharing of best practices of water treatment/distribution and electrical distribution operations and safety practices.
  • Evaluate and administer contracts and invoicing with vendors for the provision of consumables, good, services, and equipment.
  • Represent the company to the community, customers, government agencies, trade-associations, other utilities in a professional and responsible manner.
  • Perform other duties as required.


Qualifications

Minimum

  • Bachelor's Degree in an engineering, business, or other applicable discipline, and ten (10) years of operational experience, including supervisory or leadership capacity in a utility or municipality OR
  • Master's degree and eight (8) years of operational experience, including supervisory or leadership capacity in a utility or municipality.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral
  • Strong leadership skills in managing a diverse team
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills; adept resolving day-to-day questions/problems as well as synthesizing many data inputs to develop insights and enhance decision making and forecasting
  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Adept at learning new systems, computer applications, and complex process
  • Skilled in budget preparation, monitoring and administration
  • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions
  • Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards

Preferred

  • ADEQ Operator Certifications (Grade 2+ - Distribution, Treatment, Wastewater)
  • Spanish Language Fluency

Criteria/Conditions

  • Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required.
  • Freeport-McMoRan promotes a drug/alcohol-free work environment through the use of mandatory pre-employment drug testing and on-going random drug testing as allowed by applicable state laws.

  • Positions which are held by employees who operate equipment, machinery or motor vehicles in furtherance of performing the essential functions of their job duties, including operating motor vehicles while on Company business or travel (for this purpose "motor vehicles" includes Company owned or leased motor vehicles and personal motor vehicles used by employees in furtherance of Company business or while on Company travel); or
  • Positions which Freeport-McMoRan has designated as safety sensitive positions in the applicable job or position description and which upon further review continue to be designated as safety-sensitive based on an individualized assessment of the actual duties performed by a specifically identified employee.
