Experience a connection with us at Newcrest

Our history is a big part of who we are today. Our experience in the exploration, discovery, development and operation of gold mines has driven our growth globally and delivered competitive shareholder returns. Whether you are part of our offices, or at one of our sites near or far, you will find so much more than you expect. As we expand into new territories, you will find opportunities to grow with us.

Operations near and far

Located in the Great Sandy Desert in Western Australia, Telfer is a fly in out fly out operation from Perth which recognizes the importance of work-life balance. Our rooms include Foxtel, and our site offers quality food with healthy options, medical care, sports and recreation activities.

Who we are looking for

We have an exciting opportunity for a passionate, skilled and knowledgeable Geotechnical Engineer to join our Geotechnical Team at Telfer. You will efficiently identify and manage geotechnical hazards through collection, monitoring and analysis of geotechnical data to ensure a safe workplace underground.

Reporting to our supportive and highly encouraging Geotechnical Engineering Superintendent, you will have the opportunity to bring new ideas to the table and be empowered and trusted to perform your role autonomously. You will get exposure to three different underground mining methods which will provide you with a broad range of experience and opportunities for future career progression.

Other key deliverables of this role include, but are not limited to:
  • Regular underground visits and inspection to ensure the safety of mine infrastructure
  • Reviewing mine plans and supply of geotechnical inputs into the mine planning schedule
  • Monitoring the geotechnical QAQC systems for non-compliance and rectification; scheduling ground support audits to meet targets outlined in QAQC management plan
  • Monitor the seismic and deformation monitoring systems and the interaction of the underground operation with the Open Pit
  • Ensuring compliance with the major hazard standards at Telfer around rockfall and inrush

You are a safety-focused professional who enjoys technical challenges. You have excellent interpersonal skills and enjoy working autonomously and as part of a high performing team.

In addition to the above key skills, the below skillset will set you up for success:
  • A tertiary degree or an equivalent qualification in Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology or Mining Geo-mechanics
  • Proven experience in underground hard rock mining
  • Experience in a seismic mine and exposure across different mining methods such as sub-level cave, narrow vein stoping or open stoping will be desirable
  • Competent in the use of seismic software such as IMS, mXrap or similar

Please note: This is a permanent position that will work on a FIFO (8/6), flying out of Perth.
